Dr. Castro is everything I've come to expect with BOSS ortho and spine. Through his actions, knowledge, and communications, he instills confidence and caring. He greets you with a handshake. He is very pleasant, explains everytShow morehing fully, took time to show and illustrate how my scoliosis affects my body and why. Listens, provides insights and reassurances, doesn't seem rushed or distracted, not impatient, answered all my questions, looks at you when speaking, (instead of making notes or staring at the monitor screen). Everything about the appointment went well except there was a long delay before I saw Dr. Castro. To his credit he apologized for the delay. But during the appointment he was engaged, answered questions, discussed options, and eveShow moren identified a problem on the x-ray unrelated to my visit. I will be comfortable seeing him in the future.
Dr. Castro is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in orthopaedic spinal surgery at BOSS Orthopaedics in Beaufort, Hilton Head, and Bluffton, SC.
Dr. Castro earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees in Bioengineering from Clemson University in Clemson, SC and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Following medical school, he completed residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY and went on to complete fellowship training in Complex Spinal Deformities at the University of Colorado.
During residency and fellowship training, Dr. Castro was very active in spinal biomechanics research. He has presented research at various national orthopaedic meetings and has numerous publications including journal articles and book chapters to his credit. Dr. Castro was awarded the John H. Moe Award from the Scoliosis Research Society. He remains actively involved in Spinal Biomechanics research and has designed and patented medical implants that are currently in use today.
Dr. Castro has extensive experience treating all disorders of the spine in both adults and children. Over the last 20 years he has developed one of the busiest spine practices in Denver, Colorado, and has been selected as one of Denver’s TOP DOCS. Dr. Castro is well-versed in and utilizes the latest surgical techniques including minimally invasive surgery and disc replacement. Dr. Castro typically exhausts non-surgical options prior to considering surgical intervention.
When not working, Dr. Castro enjoys fly fishing, boating, golf, and intermittently participating in IRONMAN events. His recent return to South Carolina was to be closer to family and friends.

Excellent listens well and understands your concerns
Dr. Castro did an excellent evaluation. He answered all of my questions and gave great feedback back on my condition. The staff was also excellent. Only small issue was that I had to wait in the reception room for awhile before I saw the Doctor. Oh well - that happens!
