Biren Shah, DPM, provides foot care for the residents of Rockford, Illinois, at Midwest Foot and Ankle Associates. As a podiatric surgeon, Dr. Shah specializes in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery.
Dr. Shah grew up in India and earned an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering there. He relocated to the United States and earned an associate’s degree in nuclear medicine from Roosevelt University in Illinois.
Once he discovered his passion for medicine, Dr. Shah went to medical school at Barry University and completed extensive medical training during his residency at Mercy Hospital in Miami. He learned specialized skills in sports medicine, reconstructive surgery, trauma, pediatric podiatry, and diabetic wound care and limb salvage.
Dr. Shah spent considerable time training in advanced sports medicine techniques under the guidance of Miami Heat podiatrist, Dr. James Losito. He treated many professional athletes from the Miami Heat and Miami Dolphins teams.
After his time in sports medicine, Dr. Shah went into private practice. From 2015 to 2016, he was an associate partner at Lee Podiatry Group in Fort Myers, Florida. In 2016, he joined Midwest Foot and Ankle Associates.
At his practice, Dr. Shah specializes in primary podiatric medicine, sports medicine, diabetic foot care, and reconstructive surgery. He performs arthroscopy, diabetic limb salvage, flat foot reconstruction, and traumatic injury correction.
Dr. Shah is an active member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, American Podiatric Medical Association, and the Illinois Podiatric Medicine Association. He has affiliations with the Rockford Surgery Center and OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center.
When he’s off-duty, Dr. Shah enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter. He’s a technology enthusiast and an avid NBA fan. His favorite sports to play are beach volleyball and cricket.

Dr Shah and team are the best I had a minor surgery on my toe on Dec 26 and it went well just had follow up today and I’m good to go no pain no restrictions better than new! Their kindness and professionalism is five star!!!

We absolutely love Dr. Shah. Our daughter has been seeing him for ankle issues and recently a fracture in her foot and he has been absolutely wonderful! His staff are incredible as well!
Dr Shah is genuinely interested in your foot problems, but also seems concerned about your over overall health. Plus he a very good bedside manor.
