Dr. Carolynn Young is the best! I live in Glen Burnie, MD but travel to Rockville/Shady Grove to be under her care. She not only provides top notch/optimal care, she is truly concerned about her patients. Dr. Young spends time witShow moreh you and doesn't rush through her appointments. She's always there to answer questions as well as provide helpful medical advice/tips. She is so pleasant, as she starts her appointments with a smile and ends with a smile. She recently performed a surgical procedure for me, hysteroscopy, at Shady Grove Adventist and her surgical team was excited to be working with her. They praised her in the room before my surgery. In addition, Dr. Young shows great compassion to her patients. Recently, I had a medical issue that needs to be handled ASAP by Dr. Young. I was afraid that I could not get an appointment within days because of Dr. Young’s busy schedule. I was pleasantly surprised that Dr. Young decided to make time to see me the next day after I reached her! We need more doctors just like Dr. Young!
About Dr. Young
As a leader in modern women’s health solutions and a highly regarded gynecologic surgeon, Carolynn Young, MD, is a trusted physician for women of all ages. Dr. Young treats patients at Rockville Gynecology in Rockville, Maryland.
After completing her undergraduate degree, graduating summa cum laude, from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Dr. Young was accepted into medical school. She earned her doctor of medicine from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.
Dr. Young then completed an obstetrics and gynecology residency through Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk. She’s currently board certified through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and a member of the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopists.
Throughout her career, Dr. Young has gained extensive experience in pelvic floor surgery and minimally invasive procedures. Dr. Young regularly speaks at conferences and teaches her peers about modern surgical procedures and women’s health topics. She has special interests in uterine fibroids, abnormal bleeding, contraception, adolescent gynecology, and abnormal Pap smears.
Dr. Young was even the first physician to perform robotic surgery using the da Vinci® system at the Johns Hopkins Medicine Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, in 2009. She continues to utilize the da Vinci system to perform hysterectomy, myomectomy, resection of endometriosis, and removal of ovarian cyst procedures.
Outside of Rockville Gynecology, Dr. Young serves as the co-director of the Robotic Surgery Steering Committee at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville. Because of her expertise and dedication to patient care, Dr. Young was recognized as the Top Doctor in the Washingtonian magazine every year since 2015.
When she’s not busy caring for patients, Dr. Young enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends. She likes to travel to experience new cultures, exercise, read, and go on boat rides. Dr. Young truly enjoys learning about and experiencing anything to do with Italy.

I love Dr. Young’s warm and caring personality, responsiveness, expertise, and practical attitude. I did however feel a bit rushed during our discussion after my exam. I was not asked if I had any other questions or issues, and it felt like I was stopped mid-sentence when Dr. Young got up and walked out of the room in essence declaring that our time was up. Just another 5-10 minutes would have felt like I had closure with my visit.
