About Chavel Guzman

Life can be overwhelming and most of us do not have the space or the support we need to cope with life challenges. As a therapist, I provide a safe space for clients to engage in the process of self-discovery. I put a lot of emphasis on the therapeutic relationship as I believe this relationship is the catalyst for change. I like to meet clients where they are at while providing the support and structure they need. I consider myself to be emphatic, honest and non-judgmental. I strive to provide my clients with compassionate and high-quality counseling.

I have experience working with clients from different age groups and diverse ethnic background attending therapy for an array of issues such as mood disturbances, depression, anxiety disorders, substance abuse, domestic violence, trauma, stress, life transitions, and anger issues. The approach and techniques I use in therapy are based on the needs of the client. Most commonly used approaches are CBT, family systems therapy, play/art therapies, and humanistic approach. I also conduct therapy in the Spanish language for those clients in need of a bilingual therapist.

I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor. I completed my BA in Forensic Psychology and minor in human services at John Jay College. I obtained my MA in Mental Health Counseling from New York University.
