My interaction with Dr Birch was outstanding as always. He is wonderful. How ever the front office staff doing check in leave a lot to be desired. I was barely acknowledged except to ask for insurance paperwork. The. 2 people aShow moret the desk continued to chat back and forth with each other about who was BFF and plans to get together, I had to ask if I was checked in. The answer was uh huh, and they continued chatting with each other! Not a professional appearance at all, this continued as I waited over 1 hour to get X-rays. Disappointing when the Physician care is so good.

Christopher Birch, MD, is a hip and knee replacement specialist and board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with the team at Alta Orthopaedics, located in Solvang, Santa Barbara, and Oxnard, California. Dr. Birch offers not only a unique world experience but also particular medical expertise as the first fellowship-educated knee and hip arthroplasty specialist to join the Santa Barbara private medical community in well over a decade.
A Santa Barbara-native and third-generation physician, Dr. Birch completed his bachelor’s degree in international studies and chemistry at Boston College. He then spent eight months studying socio-economic aspects of public health and infectious disease in East Africa, which inspired him to pursue medicine. Afterward, he earned his medical degree from the University of California San Diego, where he was a Health Equity Scholar.
Dr. Birch went on to complete his general surgery internship and orthopaedic residency at the University of Vermont. While there, he served on the residency selection committee for two years and the graduate medical education quality council for four. Adding a final flourish to his academic credentials, Dr. Birch joins the Alta Orthopaedics team from one of the most sought-after total joint and lower extremity reconstruction fellowships in the country at Indiana University.

Julia and the staff at Alta are great...I felt listened to, and that my concerns were taken seriously. I would definitely recommend Alta if you need orthopedic care.

Dr. Christopher Birch is lovely. He's quick and thorough but, to the point. I appreciate that and know I'm getting quality care. Most importantly he listens. Both of my knees have been replaced by Doc. Birch and I'm so glad they are done and he did them.
My complete knee replacement was a most pleasant experience! Dr. Birch was great- very personable but also very professional . He patiently explained everything and answered all my questions. The surgery went very smoothly, very little pain and the recovery was amazingly swift. Now, about 4 months after the surgery, I basically forget I had it! No pain whatsoever when I walk: my goal for the whole experience. Thank you, Dr. Birch!
Dr. Birch listens carefully, answers questions thoroughly and helpfully, and makes excellent recommendations. My right knee replacement from him in 2022 functions so well that most of the time I forget I had a replacement. Knee function is comparable to what it was around 2002.
Doctor Birch Is without a doubt, the most professional, kind, and understanding Doctor I have ever dealt with. He explains everything carefully before proceeding with any procedure. He answers all questions and doesn’t rush you as most doctors do. I had knee injections done by several other doctors and both of them hurt me. I felt nothing with Dr. Birch, he numbed the area perfectly and explained what he was doing before he started. If I could give 10 stars, I would.
