THEN BACK TO THE EXAM ROOM AND IN COMES MY SWEET, AMAZING YOUNG SURGEON—-DR. DANIEL DEL GAIZO—-WHO HAD TO TAKE KATHY’S KNEE APART TO REMOVE AND REVISE AN OLD 18 YEAR OLD BROKEN KNEE REPLACEMENT !!! HE IS A WONDERFUL DOCTOR AND SO KIND AND PATIENT AND I LOVED HIS POST SURGICAL REGIMEN OF EXTRA STRENGTH TYLENOL, CELEBREX, BABY ASPIRIN, ZINC, VITAMIN D AND EXTRA PROTEIN WHICH KEPT ME FROM NEEDING PAIN MEDICATION !!! I HAD MAYBE 4OR 5 TRAMADOL FOR PAIN AFTER SURGERY AT THE HOSPITAL AND ONLY A COUPLE AFTER I CAME HOME !!! DR. DEL GAIZO IS EXTREMELY THOROUGH AND CONCERNED ABOUT HIS PATIENTS !!! I WAS IN AGONIZING PAIN BEFORE SURGERY EVERY TIME I WALKED —-NOW NO PAIN !!! THEN, 2 BEAUTIFUL YOUNG WOMEN CAME IN AND PLACED A NEW SPLINT ON MY LEG AND WERE SO PATIENT TO ADJUST AND READJUST THE SPLINT AFTER WHICH THEY ESCORTED ME TO CHECKOUT AND YET ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL YOUNG WOMAN CHECKED ME OUT AND FAVE ME A RETURN APPOINTMENT !!! COULD NOT IMAGINE BETTER CARE OR KINDNESS !!! THANK YOU ALL !!! IT MEANS SO MUCH !!!
I found my patient experience to be very positive for multiple reasons: 1) I called with an issue as a new patient and secured an appointment relatively quickly. 2). I arrived 10 minutes early for my 2:30 appointment having compShow moreleted my pre-registration on-line and was met by a warm and clearly competent admin professional to get checked in. 3) I was called in at precisely 2:30. 4) The admitting nurse asked questions that clearly demonstrated her knowledge of my area of concern (hip), and set me up for an immediate X-ray. 5. The X-ray tech showed up almost immediately and was very easy (in fact fun) to work with - but also professional to the degree of ensuring each image was clear before having me move to another position 6) Dr Del Gaizo arrived in my exam room within 2 mins of my return from X-ray 7) He listened to my symptoms and then walked me through his diagnosis in language I could understand, that made sense to me all backstopped by his frequent pointing to specifics on the X-ray displayed on his screen. I came away feeling I was in good hands with him. All said and done - I went in at 2:30 and was on my way back home at 3:05 feeling well cared for, not feeling rushed in the least but believing I was dealing with a very well run, professional organization. Bravo to all.
About Dr. Del Gaizo
Daniel J. Del Gaizo, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult reconstruction/ hip and knee replacement surgery. He is excited to be joining the well-respected Beaufort Orthopaedic Sports & Spine group, with offices in Beaufort, Bluffton, and Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Dr. Del Gaizo's practice philosophy is to care for his patients like family. From conservative non-operative treatments to complex joint reconstructive surgery, he works to address each patient's unique situation, goals, and expectations. He believes in providing a personalized experience that meets the highest standards of care.
Dr. Del Gaizo received his medical degree from The George Washington University in Washington, DC. He graduated at the top of his class and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society. Dr. Del Gaizo then completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, followed by a fellowship in adult reconstruction/hip and knee replacement at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
During his fellowship, Dr. Del Gaizo trained with several world-renowned joint replacement surgeons, including Richard Berger, MD, Craig Della Valle, MD, Aaron Rosenberg, MD, and Wayne Paprosky, MD. Dr. Del Gaizo was then recruited to return to join the faculty at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. At UNC, he served initially as an assistant professor before being promoted to associate professor of orthopaedic surgery.
While at UNC, Dr. Del Gaizo was instrumental in establishing a busy hip and knee replacement program, educating and mentoring residents and medical students, and serving as a principal investigator in many clinical research trials. He was subsequently recruited to The Palmetto Health-USC Moore Clinic (later Prisma Health) Orthopedic Center in Columbia, South Carolina. There, he served as clinical associate professor of orthopedic surgery with The University of South Carolina School of Medicine.
Dr. Del Gaizo's clinical expertise includes all aspects of hip and knee replacement surgery, including minimally/less invasive techniques, direct anterior hip replacement, computer-assisted surgery, robotic-assisted surgery, custom implant joint replacement, partial knee replacement, patellofemoral knee replacement, revision knee replacement, and revision hip replacement. With over ten years of clinical experience, he has successfully performed thousands of joint replacement surgeries.
Dr. Del Gaizo is a member of The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), The American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), The South Carolina Orthopaedic Association, and The Southern Orthopaedic Association (SOA). He has numerous peer-reviewed publications and gives lectures locally, regionally, and nationally. In his free time, he enjoys exercising, being outdoors, traveling, food/wine, and spending time with his wife, Eryka, and their three children, Christopher, Rachel, and Matthew.

Very good!
Dr Del Gaizo is a very kind, understanding doctor. He knew what my problem was and explained the pros and cons of repairing my problem knee. He told me the surgery would be a bigger surgery than my original knee replacement and about how long recovery would be. I left his office feeling very comfortable that my problem would be corrected by a very competent doctor.
Dr. DelGaizo was punctual, personable, professional and informative. He readily walked me through the decision process of treatments for an arthritic knee.

Dr. Del Gaizo was able to give me a very good explanation of the source of my pain. He assured me that there is a path to recovery, and was very comforting.
Dr Del Gaizo replaced both knees last year in January and April 2023. He is the best orthopedic doctor I have ever had. He takes the time to listen to your concerns, he is a professional and compassionate. I was walking 6 to 7 miles by July with minimal pain. I barely even know I has surgery and my knees are doing great!! Dr. Del Gaizo is all about keeping your knees infection free. I would recommend him to anyone considering knee surgery.

I had my right knee replaced last August with great results. I am about to undergo replacement of the left knee and have no hesitation whatsoever in Dr. DelGaizo performing this surgery. Based on my prior experience with the first surgery, I fully expect good results with this knee replacement as well.

Doctor DelGaizo was explicit in reviewing my Xrays. He then discussed the many options we had to move forward. He immediately got on the phone and set up my preoperative appointment for the next day. He also reserved a date for surgery as well as a follow up date to see him after the surgery. He was very thorough efficient.
