My experience with Dr. Del Gaizo has been excellent. Everything from the office staff, to the clinical staff, to the doctors, is a well-oiled machine. Their coordination with either the Surgical Center or Beaufort Hospital is exceShow morellent. Everyone is friendly, professional and keeps you informed every step of the way. Dr. Del Gaizo will put you at ease, he answers all your questions and explains everything in detail. But in the end it's about the outcome. I had Dr. Dean replace my shoulder and Dr. Del Gaizo replaced my hip. And both have been excellent outcomes. I highly recommend the professionals at BOSS.
The pre=op process was well-organized and included an excellent information session. The day of my surgery went smothly -- arrived at 6 a.m. and was home by 12:30. Recovery has gone very well, with pleassnt and professional in-homShow moree physical therapy. Outparient PT is next!
About Dr. Del Gaizo
Daniel J. Del Gaizo, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult reconstruction/ hip and knee replacement surgery. He is excited to be joining the well-respected Beaufort Orthopaedic Sports & Spine group, with offices in Beaufort, Bluffton, and Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Dr. Del Gaizo's practice philosophy is to care for his patients like family. From conservative non-operative treatments to complex joint reconstructive surgery, he works to address each patient's unique situation, goals, and expectations. He believes in providing a personalized experience that meets the highest standards of care.
Dr. Del Gaizo received his medical degree from The George Washington University in Washington, DC. He graduated at the top of his class and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society. Dr. Del Gaizo then completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, followed by a fellowship in adult reconstruction/hip and knee replacement at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
During his fellowship, Dr. Del Gaizo trained with several world-renowned joint replacement surgeons, including Richard Berger, MD, Craig Della Valle, MD, Aaron Rosenberg, MD, and Wayne Paprosky, MD. Dr. Del Gaizo was then recruited to return to join the faculty at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. At UNC, he served initially as an assistant professor before being promoted to associate professor of orthopaedic surgery.
While at UNC, Dr. Del Gaizo was instrumental in establishing a busy hip and knee replacement program, educating and mentoring residents and medical students, and serving as a principal investigator in many clinical research trials. He was subsequently recruited to The Palmetto Health-USC Moore Clinic (later Prisma Health) Orthopedic Center in Columbia, South Carolina. There, he served as clinical associate professor of orthopedic surgery with The University of South Carolina School of Medicine.
Dr. Del Gaizo's clinical expertise includes all aspects of hip and knee replacement surgery, including minimally/less invasive techniques, direct anterior hip replacement, computer-assisted surgery, robotic-assisted surgery, custom implant joint replacement, partial knee replacement, patellofemoral knee replacement, revision knee replacement, and revision hip replacement. With over ten years of clinical experience, he has successfully performed thousands of joint replacement surgeries.
Dr. Del Gaizo is a member of The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), The American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), The South Carolina Orthopaedic Association, and The Southern Orthopaedic Association (SOA). He has numerous peer-reviewed publications and gives lectures locally, regionally, and nationally. In his free time, he enjoys exercising, being outdoors, traveling, food/wine, and spending time with his wife, Eryka, and their three children, Christopher, Rachel, and Matthew.

Dr introduced himself to me when he entered the exam room. He asked to see my knee. He then showed me the X-rays of my knee. He explained that the bones were rubbing together and a new knee is recommended. He explained the risks involved because of my age,but he thought I appeared to be in good health. He felt I would get through the surgery well. He then gave me several papers to give to the front desk so they could set up the necessary appointment to prepare me for the surgery.
Staff were very friendly and processional. Dr. Del Gaizo gave a full explanation of the pain in my knee and answered my questions and was genuinely interested in seeking a recovery which put me in a better state of mind about the condition.
Dr Del Gaizo is an extremely talented surgeon. I have total confidence my knee will come out brand new.

First Dr in the South that actually examined me hands on checked the joint. Previously they look at X-ray & talk only. Was extremely happy with Dr D & great personality to go with his expertise.
