THEN BACK TO THE EXAM ROOM AND IN COMES MY SWEET, AMAZING YOUNG SURGEON—-DR. DANIEL DEL GAIZO—-WHO HAD TO TAKE KATHY’S KNEE APART TO REMOVE AND REVISE AN OLD 18 YEAR OLD BROKEN KNEE REPLACEMENT !!! HE IS A WONDERFUL DOCTOR AND SO KIND AND PATIENT AND I LOVED HIS POST SURGICAL REGIMEN OF EXTRA STRENGTH TYLENOL, CELEBREX, BABY ASPIRIN, ZINC, VITAMIN D AND EXTRA PROTEIN WHICH KEPT ME FROM NEEDING PAIN MEDICATION !!! I HAD MAYBE 4OR 5 TRAMADOL FOR PAIN AFTER SURGERY AT THE HOSPITAL AND ONLY A COUPLE AFTER I CAME HOME !!! DR. DEL GAIZO IS EXTREMELY THOROUGH AND CONCERNED ABOUT HIS PATIENTS !!! I WAS IN AGONIZING PAIN BEFORE SURGERY EVERY TIME I WALKED —-NOW NO PAIN !!! THEN, 2 BEAUTIFUL YOUNG WOMEN CAME IN AND PLACED A NEW SPLINT ON MY LEG AND WERE SO PATIENT TO ADJUST AND READJUST THE SPLINT AFTER WHICH THEY ESCORTED ME TO CHECKOUT AND YET ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL YOUNG WOMAN CHECKED ME OUT AND FAVE ME A RETURN APPOINTMENT !!! COULD NOT IMAGINE BETTER CARE OR KINDNESS !!! THANK YOU ALL !!! IT MEANS SO MUCH !!!
I have seen Dr. Del Gaizo several times for a second opinion after having a knee replacement with a difficult recovery. He had an xray done in his office and ordered a CT scan. Ultimately, nothing unusual was found in the resultsShow more and Dr. Del Gaizo assured me that no revision surgery would be necessary. This was good and bad news, since there was no discernable reason found for my ongoing pain. He recommended more PT and that is what I am currently doing. However, I must commend Dr. Del Gaizo for even taking me on as a patient and making a sincere effort to help me. He felt that perhaps my back issues were affecting my knee and suggested I see his colleague, Dr. Castro, which I did. During our last appointment, Dr. Del Gaizo made a referral for a back MRI, again, trying to find a cause for the knee issues. My past experiences with surgeons have been less than positive, but Dr. Del Gaizo seems to be cut from a different cloth. He has a very pleasant manner, puts the patient at ease, answers all questions and does not rush you. He actually seems happy to talk with you. I hope I never have to have my other knee replaced, but if I do, I will choose Dr. Del Gaizo, but not only because of his kind manner, but because he also has a reputation as a stellar surgeon.
About Dr. Del Gaizo
Daniel J. Del Gaizo, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult reconstruction/ hip and knee replacement surgery. He is excited to be joining the well-respected Beaufort Orthopaedic Sports & Spine group, with offices in Beaufort, Bluffton, and Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Dr. Del Gaizo's practice philosophy is to care for his patients like family. From conservative non-operative treatments to complex joint reconstructive surgery, he works to address each patient's unique situation, goals, and expectations. He believes in providing a personalized experience that meets the highest standards of care.
Dr. Del Gaizo received his medical degree from The George Washington University in Washington, DC. He graduated at the top of his class and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society. Dr. Del Gaizo then completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, followed by a fellowship in adult reconstruction/hip and knee replacement at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
During his fellowship, Dr. Del Gaizo trained with several world-renowned joint replacement surgeons, including Richard Berger, MD, Craig Della Valle, MD, Aaron Rosenberg, MD, and Wayne Paprosky, MD. Dr. Del Gaizo was then recruited to return to join the faculty at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. At UNC, he served initially as an assistant professor before being promoted to associate professor of orthopaedic surgery.
While at UNC, Dr. Del Gaizo was instrumental in establishing a busy hip and knee replacement program, educating and mentoring residents and medical students, and serving as a principal investigator in many clinical research trials. He was subsequently recruited to The Palmetto Health-USC Moore Clinic (later Prisma Health) Orthopedic Center in Columbia, South Carolina. There, he served as clinical associate professor of orthopedic surgery with The University of South Carolina School of Medicine.
Dr. Del Gaizo's clinical expertise includes all aspects of hip and knee replacement surgery, including minimally/less invasive techniques, direct anterior hip replacement, computer-assisted surgery, robotic-assisted surgery, custom implant joint replacement, partial knee replacement, patellofemoral knee replacement, revision knee replacement, and revision hip replacement. With over ten years of clinical experience, he has successfully performed thousands of joint replacement surgeries.
Dr. Del Gaizo is a member of The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), The American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), The South Carolina Orthopaedic Association, and The Southern Orthopaedic Association (SOA). He has numerous peer-reviewed publications and gives lectures locally, regionally, and nationally. In his free time, he enjoys exercising, being outdoors, traveling, food/wine, and spending time with his wife, Eryka, and their three children, Christopher, Rachel, and Matthew.

The office personnel were efficient & kind. Dr. Delgaizo ,upon meeting him for the first time,was welcoming and a good listener.Upon examining my knee he was gentle.His explanation of my problem was thorough & he answered all my questions.I am certain we will have a good Dr.-patient relationship.

Dr Delgazio is amazing! I can’t believe how fast I was walking without a walker or cane. After the first week I was only on Tylenol. I feel great after my total hip replacement

Dr DelGaizo and his staff made my knee replacement experience go as smoothly as possible. I was given all the information I needed to help me understand every facet of the procedure itself and what to expect in the healing process. I feel fortunate to have had him as my surgeon. I highly recommend Dr Del Gaizo to anyone who may have concerns about the procedure. One visit and you'll feel comfortable with moving forward . It's now one year after surgery and I am so grateful and pleased with the entire experience. Most of all I no more pain because I have my new knee.

Dr. Del Gaizo is a very knowledgeable professional with a really great bedside manner. He takes time with his patients to make sure they understand their health situation and all alternatives available to them. He was able to diagnose the problem I was having with my complete knee replacement and provide a much better solution to my problem than the Orthopedic professionals at MUSC.

I have an on going problem with my knee and outer part of my leg. The doctor has helped my knee, but not my leg, it seems to be a back problem. He was determined to fix my knee and put off doing a knee replacement which will be the next step in a couple of years. (I hope)

All the fears of a knee revision were dispelled. Dr DelGazio made the best decisions during my surgery to bring about the best outcome for me. Since then he has be very compassionate about my other ortho issue and has secured additional expert opinions for my care. Choosing Dr D was the best possible choice for me. And I’m sure many will continue to expect the same from him.
