David Oakley, MD is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician who has practiced in Traverse City for 30 years. He is now practicing at Thirlby Clinic, to continue his goal of providing outstanding medical care to his patients.
Dr. Oakley completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan, then received his medical degree at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor in 1995, before moving to Traverse City to begin his practice at Grand Traverse Internists.
His special interests include preventative medicine, as well as chronic disease management including coronary artery disease, hypertension and diabetes.
Dr. Oakley and his wife share six adult children, and they enjoy their time spent with family, especially on the waters of Grand Traverse Bay.

Always pleasant
I’ve been with the same medical team in Grand Rapids since 1987, and have a complicated medical history. Needing to move north to be closer to my family meant finding a new physician in Traverse City. After meeting with several physician’s, I chose Dr Weichert, and I’m so grateful I did! He listens patiently, with an encouraging nature, and understands what I am ‘trying’ to explain. I am confident that I’m in excellent care, and trust in Dr Weicherts wisdom. His staff are equally as wonderful, insuring every patient feels well cared for and special. Thank you for putting your patients first.
I was having a problem that Dr Weichert connected to one of the medications I was taking and prescribed an alternative.
