Etienne Mejia, MD

Board-certified orthopedic surgeon Etienne A. Mejia, MD, brings three decades of specialized experience to his medical practice at Sports Medicine Center. In the Appleton, Wisconsin, office, Dr. Mejia treats work injuries, acute injuries, and sports injuries of the musculoskeletal system.

Dr. Mejia is a renowned orthopedic surgeon with specialty fellowship training in arthroscopic techniques. He frequently performs Tommy John surgery, ACL reconstruction, meniscus surgery, rotator cuff repair, and other surgical procedures in the knees, shoulders, and ankles.

Dr. Mejia earned his undergraduate degree at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, and then completed his medical degree at the Tulane University School of Medicine, also in New Orleans. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California.

Following medical school, Dr. Mejia served 10 years in the United States Navy, which included training as an aerospace medicine specialist, and he worked as a naval flight surgeon with the United States Marine Corps in California.

Throughout his military career, Dr. Mejia earned multiple commendations and awards before leaving the Navy with the rank of lieutenant commander.

Following his service career, Dr. Mejia completed another year of specialized training in orthopedic sports medicine and rehabilitation at the world-famous Cincinnati SportsMedicine and Orthopaedic Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. During his sports medicine fellowship, Dr. Mejia treated a wide range of athletes, from Olympians and professional players to weekend warriors.

In his free time, Dr. Mejia is a baseball enthusiast, and it shows in his work too. He’s proud to serve as the head team physician for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers minor league baseball team, and he’s also a team physician for the Milwaukee Brewers. He formerly served as a team physician for the Seattle Mariners.
