Garret Schuchart, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic spine surgeon practicing at Pioneer Peak Orthopedics in Wasilla, Alaska. Fellowship-trained in spinal procedures from the skull to the pelvis, in May of 2026 became the first surgeon to preform lumbar disc replacement in the city of Wasilla.
Born and raised on a cattle ranch in south Texas, Dr. Schuchart’s education began at Hardin-Simmons University where he was a collegiate tight end on the football team while majoring in biology with a minor in biochemistry. He continued at Texas Tech University Health Science Center in Lubbock, Texas, for medical school. Dr. Schuchart completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Temple, Texas (ranked the number one major teaching hospital by Fortune/PINC in 2023), where he was well-trained in all fields of orthopedic surgery. He then pursued additional training with Sonoran Spine Research and Education Foundation in Tempe, Arizona, where he had broad exposure to the latest innovations in spine surgery, including robotic-assisted spine surgery, minimally invasive procedures, motion preservation surgeries, and complex deformity reconstruction. His fellowship gave him expertise in spinal procedures from the skull to the pelvis including anterior, lateral, and posterior approaches.
Dr. Schuchart’s wife, Kami, is also a native Texan, relocated to Wasilla in 2024. Married in 2014, they have three beautiful children. In their spare time, both Dr. Schuchart and his wife are avid hunters, hikers, skiers, and enjoy anything related to the outdoors. In the short time since moving to Alaska they have enjoyed joining and serving the Mat-Su Valley community.

Can’t say enough good things about the quality of the care and the concern. The communication is top notch as well. Thank you so very much Pioneer Peak. My world was getting small and dark. But you looked for the problems and fixed me. without the constant pain, my world got bigger and brighter.

My prognosis is for surgery, however some less invasive procedures were recommended to try first to see if I get any relief first. I liked that very much.
Dr. Schuchart did such a great job. I had a hard time believing beforehand that I would be able to get up after the surgery with minimal pain, but right after the surgery sure enough I was able to get up and felt so good to be relatively pain-free I am so grateful. Just dealing with the incision but that was nothing compared to the pain that I had been in. Thank you Dr. Schuchart

Garret knows his stuff; he's confident, friendly, exacting and a family guy. Jimmy does shoulders; Garret does backs & spines (probably among other 'doctor knowledgeable stuff' that I didn't test him on). He doesn't waste your time, or his. He puts you back together and monitors your recovery with helpful insights. In my book, he is THE guy!
