Dr. Haresh Tharwani, MD

Haresh Tharwani, MD, DFAPA, is the founder, president, and chief medical officer of MD Psychiatry & Emotional Health, PLLC. The practice has offices in North Cary, South Cary, Durham (Southpoint Mall), and Raleigh (Mid-Town), North Carolina, where patients benefit from Dr. Tharwani’s clinical experience and expertise in psychopharmacology and psychotherapy.

After completing his medical degree, Dr. Tharwani undertook general psychiatry training at West Virginia University’s School of Medicine. He served as a co-chief resident during his fourth year and was awarded “Best Resident of the Year” twice. Dr. Tharwani continued his training at Harvard Medical School’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, and then joined Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, as a psychopharmacology research fellow.

Dr. Tharwani is board-certified in general psychiatry and consultation-liaison psychiatry. With a passion for research and education, he was a faculty member at Duke University for 19 years, serving as a senior associate professor and medical director.

In 2005, the American Psychiatric Association named Dr. Tharwani the recipient of the “Best Teacher of the Year” award. He has also won many other awards, including “Compassionate Doctor Recognition,” the “On-Time Doctor Award,” and the “Patient’s Choice Award” on multiple occasions.

Dr. Tharwani specializes in treating patients with clinical depression, panic disorder, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and personality disorders using evidence-based psychopharmacology and psychotherapy.

In his spare time, Dr. Tharwani enjoys activities that rejuvenate his mind and body, such as watching movies, listening to music, hiking, and relaxing at the beach.
