Always a warm and welcoming staff. Dr. Mendez is very personable and caring. I have been a patient for years, and have needed many surgeries. and have not had one bad experience. Can’t say enough about how great they are.

Jose Mendez, DO, brings over twenty years of experience as a physician to his practice at Dermatology Consultants of Asheville in Woodfin, North Carolina. He has experience in varied areas, including dermatology, dermatologic surgery, wound care, critical care, primary care, and research. Dr. Mendez has over thirteen years of specialized experience in general dermatology and Mohs surgery.
Dr. Mendez earned his medical degree from Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is board-certified in dermatology by the American Board of Physician Specialties and is a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. Dr. Mendez is also board-certified in geriatric care and family medicine. He is fluent in English and Spanish, which enables him to connect with more patients.
Dr. Mendez served as a voluntary Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He has also served as a Clinical Professor for Internal Medicine and Dermatology with the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and Clinical Professor for the Department of Dermatology Nova Southeastern University. i have been a patient of mendez for at.least ten years. i have had many many procedures and visits with mendez and his medical staff far too many to list here., including many mose? procedures for skin cancer removals. All have been successful and i hold these people in the highest regard for their ability, knowledge, professionalism and demeanor. My issue and concerns are with the support staff and office professionals that do the scheduling and assigning calendar dates for appointments. My personal interactions have included, up till recently, four different scheduled appointments for procedures and visits which were cancelled by the office staff. Three different times that i showed up for my scheduled appointment and was informed by the office staff that upon my arrival that my appointment was cancelled and they were unable to contact me. My most recent issue was for a mose? surgery scheduled for Monday, May 25 of this year, at 1030am. On May 20 2026, i recieved a text reminding me about this appointment and asked to confirm my appointment and agree to be there for the appointment on May 25 at 1030am for the scheduled procedure and that if i failed to show as promised, there would be a $25 fee charged to me as a $25 no show fee. This was communicated to me on may 20 at 601 pm. i responded and on may 21 i received a text from mendez office thanking me for confirming and they look forward to seeing me. Be aware the the assigned appointment was for Monday May 25, 2026 turned out to be Memorial day and i was the only person in the building . When i was seen by Mendez on a rescheduling date on MOnday june 8, i brought this to his attention. He claimed he spoke to his staff who said i was wrongly assigned the holiday appointment and they were unable to to contact me and cancel my appointment .As previously stated this is the fourth time i have inconveniently been wrongly scheduled. On Monday Mat 25 i had a 930am appointment for mose surgery I arrived at Mendez office at 9 am. When going to sign in i was informed by employee that my appointment had been cancelled and she was unable to contact me .I showed her my cell phone, the only one i use, that i am able to recall any and all telephone calls to this phone from any call made to or from this phone in its call history. I offered to show her that i had no record of any call from this office to my phone on this or recently from this location She replied that it was another division that contacted persons in this type of situation. This interaction occurred in the waiting room with a number of persons waiting for their appoinments , she had specifically stated that she had tried calling me herself and not that it was done by someone other than her. Also it must be mentioned that in all these instances there was no record on my phone of any communication with this office and my phone, nor were there any voicemails or texts about these issues on my telephone. Once is a mistake. Four seperate instances of this type indicates a problem which a professional organization must be made aware of and take immediate corrective action and discipline if warrented I am available for follow up concerning this communication as i feel disappointed in the way i have been treated by this employee or staff persons
