Dr. Kenneth Branton, MD

Kenneth R. Branton, MD, is a double board-certified pain management physician and the Medical Director of Pain Management Centers of New England and the Beverly Hospital Pain Management Center. He sees patients at the practice’s Newburyport, Massachusetts office and at the Beverly Hospital Pain Management Center in Danvers, Massachusetts (located in the Beth Israel Lahey Patient Care Center).

Dr. Branton is board-certified in both Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Economics from Bowdoin College, worked in the Division of Tumor Immunology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He completed his internship at the University of Chicago Hospital, his Anesthesiology residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, and his Pain Management fellowship at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, where he developed subspecialty expertise in cancer-related pain at Dana-Farber.

With more than 25 years of experience in pain management, Dr. Branton treats back pain, neck pain, sciatica, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, sacroiliac joint dysfunction, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), cancer-related pain, and failed back surgery syndrome, among other painful conditions. His interventional treatments include epidural steroid injections, radiofrequency ablation, the Intracept procedure for vertebrogenic low back pain, sacroiliac joint radiofrequency, spinal cord stimulation, the mild procedure for lumbar spinal stenosis, and kyphoplasty.

Dr. Branton was one of the first physicians in the Chicago area to perform percutaneous disc decompression with Nucleoplasty radiofrequency technology for contained herniated discs — a technique he was featured performing on Chicago’s NBC affiliate. He was the first physician in New England to perform radiofrequency ablation of the nerves carrying pain signals from the sacroiliac joint using the Simplicity III probe, and he is among the most experienced physicians performing the Intracept procedure on Boston’s North Shore and in the Merrimack Valley.

Dr. Branton previously served as Director of Pain Management at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, a Level 1 trauma center in Chicago, where he taught residents and lectured for the Chicago Medical Society and the Illinois Society of Anesthesiologists. He is a past president of Beverly Anesthesia Associates, Inc., which provides anesthesia services for Beverly Hospital.

Dr. Branton was named a 2025 Best of BusinessRate Pain Management Physician in Newburyport and holds a 5.0-star rating on Google.

Dr. Branton is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), the Massachusetts Society of Anesthesiologists (MSA), the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians (ASIPP), and the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS). Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his family, friends, and his French Bulldog, Guapo.
