The newer knees should hold up well beyond that…probably forever based on my X-rays (currently 69 yrs old)! He reviewed my X-rays which looked like the day he put them in so all is great.
Dr. Dean is an incredible surgeon. He knew what my outcome would be even before he did the surgery. The program that they have set up, works like clockwork. About Dr. Dean
Mark Dean, MD, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with particular expertise in sports medicine and shoulder and knee injuries. He currently sees patients at Beaufort Orthopaedic Sports & Spine in Beaufort, Bluffton, and Hilton Head, South Carolina.
After completing his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University, Dr. Dean received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He completed his residency training in orthopaedic surgery at Parkland Memorial Hospital and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Subsequently, he did a fellowship in shoulder and knee surgery and sports medicine at the prestigious Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado.
Dr. Dean’s primary focus is sports medicine for active patients of all ages, with an emphasis on rehabilitation and surgical reconstruction of shoulder and knee injuries. Over the past 20 years, he has performed more than 14,000 surgeries on adult and pediatric patients, including high school, college, and professional athletes, as well as senior athletes.
Dr. Dean has lectured at the regional and national levels on orthopaedic topics with particular emphasis on shoulder and knee injuries, skiing, tennis, and golf-related injuries. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and has served as a board member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine Fellowship Exam Committee. Additionally, he has contributed many academic articles and book chapters to such publications as the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Review, and the Handbook of Sports Medicine.
Locally, Dr. Dean serves as the team physician for many area high school athletic teams and as a consultant to elite tennis and golf academies. He has also served as a team physician for the Denver Broncos, the United States Disabled Ski Team, the US Pro Ski Tour, and the US Olympic Ski Team. He is married to Brooke Dean, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist, and has three children, Hunter, Elise, and Jenna.

Dr Dean is always wonderful. He did my husband’s successful shoulder replacement, and he just gave me a second steroid shot in my shoulder. The first one lasted a year! He is always knowledgeable, pleasant, and considerate. .
I would highly recommend Dr Dean. He is very knowledgeable and able to explain clearly what the issue is and recommend a course of action. He spends plenty of time with me and gives his undivided attention. I completely trust him as my doctor and would as my surgeon as well.

Absolutely one of the best doctors I have gone to. He paid attention to all of my symptoms and provided well needed feedback. He scrutinized my MRI and made comments that gave me a framework of how to proceed going forward to address this issue. He was easy to talk to and gave me the option to use the portal where I could ask for PT referral if needed. I am glad my Primary Physician recommended him.
Dr. Dean was thorough in his explanation of my issue, ensuring that I understood what he was saying. He took his time and explained my different options. There is a reason he is recommended so highly.
This was my first time seeing Dr Dean about my shoulder and I would highly recommend him. He was professional and listened to my concerns. He is honest and straight forward in his answers exactly what I look for in a physician. He agrees with me, exhaust everything else before running to surgery although I have heard he is an excellent surgeon! We will see what the MRI shows.

I first met Dr. Dean in 2004 when I had a torn meniscus. Now 22 years later he has laid out a plan for my knee treatment to avoid or at least postpone surgery
Dr. Dave explained the next step if the Cortizone shots do not work, it was very detailed and helpful.

I had an issue with my shoulder and elbow. When I showed up for my appointment the front desk staff was very helpful and cooperative, and then the x-ray technician also was friendly and professional. I met Dr. Dean for the first time I explained my issues he took his time examining me as well as explaining what was happening and different options that I had for my problem. I would definitely recommend this entire practice.
