MArk Dean replaced my knee over 13 years ago. It’s doing great. Total range of motion, no pain and strong. I was concerned on longevity having read on the internet that knees last about 15 years! Well I was wrong as he assuredShow more me that was for knee replacement in the 90’s and before. The newer knees should hold up well beyond that…probably forever based on my X-rays (currently 69 yrs old)! He reviewed my X-rays which looked like the day he put them in so all is great.
Dr. Dean is an incredible surgeon. He knew what my outcome would be even before he did the surgery. The program that they have set up, works like clockwork. About Dr. Dean
Mark Dean, MD, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with particular expertise in sports medicine and shoulder and knee injuries. He currently sees patients at Beaufort Orthopaedic Sports & Spine in Beaufort, Bluffton, and Hilton Head, South Carolina.
After completing his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University, Dr. Dean received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He completed his residency training in orthopaedic surgery at Parkland Memorial Hospital and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Subsequently, he did a fellowship in shoulder and knee surgery and sports medicine at the prestigious Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado.
Dr. Dean’s primary focus is sports medicine for active patients of all ages, with an emphasis on rehabilitation and surgical reconstruction of shoulder and knee injuries. Over the past 20 years, he has performed more than 14,000 surgeries on adult and pediatric patients, including high school, college, and professional athletes, as well as senior athletes.
Dr. Dean has lectured at the regional and national levels on orthopaedic topics with particular emphasis on shoulder and knee injuries, skiing, tennis, and golf-related injuries. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and has served as a board member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine Fellowship Exam Committee. Additionally, he has contributed many academic articles and book chapters to such publications as the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Review, and the Handbook of Sports Medicine.
Locally, Dr. Dean serves as the team physician for many area high school athletic teams and as a consultant to elite tennis and golf academies. He has also served as a team physician for the Denver Broncos, the United States Disabled Ski Team, the US Pro Ski Tour, and the US Olympic Ski Team. He is married to Brooke Dean, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist, and has three children, Hunter, Elise, and Jenna.

I met with Dr. Dean for an initial consultation for my shoulder issue. He took his time to listen, check my issue physically and go over his assessment and help me decide on a plan of action and follow-up plan. I highly recommend.

Dr Dean allowed me to make the decision for myself based on the information he provided. I didn’t feel pressured to make a decision about a life changing surgery. I feel like he cares about his patients and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for an orthopedic surgeon.

The courtesy of time. Something one doesn't always get at the doctor's office these days. Dr. Dean took his time to not only explain the issues I was having but also the variety of potential solutions. No sugar coating - just the facts in layman's terms. Very caring about outcome
Was in the waiting room for an hour 15 minutes. Was in the exam room waiting for 20 minutes. I’m sure this was a one off because in the past the process has gone fairly quickly. The facility is very nice and I like Dr. Dean very much.
Everyone at BOSS were cordial and helpful, from reception through follow up scheduling. Dr.Dean went over my x rays with and did a physical exam on my knee. Recommended a course of action. Very personable and sincere.

Professional. He took the time to explain what exactly is going on with my son's shoulder. Unfortunately surgery has to be preformed. But was reassured by Dr. Dean he will fully recover.

Dr Dean is always wonderful. He did my husband’s successful shoulder replacement, and he just gave me a second steroid shot in my shoulder. The first one lasted a year! He is always knowledgeable, pleasant, and considerate. .
