I was a new patient to Dr. South. It was clear that she was informed by my history when determining next steps after the exam. I was also able to avoid unnecessary duplication of previous testing, which I greatly appreciated. Dr. Show moreSouth clearly explained my conditions and options for treatment, including the pros and cons of each, and answered all of my questions. I was sent home with detailed information about my upcoming procedure and samples of medication needed to get me through until my symptoms were resolved from the procedure. She came highly recommended to me by my primary doctor and I feel very confident in her ability to treat my conditions very successfully. My only complaint is the digital registration, which I found out is new so I'm a little more understanding. I spent over a half hour completing the "paperwork" on my phone, only to find out that much of it (ex. list of medications) was not received by the doctor's office so I had to give it to them again during my appointment. Also, the digital registration requested a credit card for payment which it said that it would charge on the day of my appointment, but I was also asked to make my copayment in the office. But when I expressed concerns about being double charged, they were okay with me not making a payment at the appointment.
My experience was very good, with positive conversations with everyone. Dr. South was very clear in what procedures she was doing and what the follow up will be. The hand outs are informative and saves a lot of time for future eShow morexplanations. This is now Friday evening, September 1st. When I went to Sand Run Pharmacy to make a purchase, I was informed that a prescription had been ordered by Dr. South for a urinary infection. I did not receive a message regarding this on my designated phone. Was there one on my mobile phone? I do NOT answer this phone, only for calls from my family. If so PLEASE only leave messages for me on this number: 330-836-2119. If I had not gone to make a purchase, I would not have known about the RX until perhaps next week because of the holiday. I am still not sure about the Portal program and will need more of an explanation on my next visit. Lois Reaven
Mary South, MD, MHA, is a dedicated urogynecologist at Northeast Ohio Urogynecology in Akron, Ohio. As a native of northeastern Ohio, Dr. South is passionate about treating and caring for the local women in the community.
Dr. South began her studies at The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, before pursuing her medical degree at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. In addition, she achieved her master’s degree in health administration from the University of Cincinnati.
After graduation, she went on to complete a four-year residency program in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. While in residency, Dr. South was named chief resident as well as being the recipient of the 2004 Robert A. Ross Research Award.
A passionate learner, Dr. South also took part in a fellowship at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. During her fellowship and over the years, she has published various peer-reviewed journal articles, contributed chapters to several books, and presented award-winning educational videos on surgical techniques at national medical conferences.
Her professional experiences include serving as the division director for female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery division at the University of Cincinnati, as well as being a co-fellowship director there.
When she’s not helping patients with their women’s health concerns, Dr. South enjoys spending quality time with her husband and their three children, hiking in the metro parks and biking.

Dr South is the best doctor. i had a hysterectomy at 80yrs old. I was really worried about having the surgery but it turned out it was so easy. Went home the same day and have felt great ever since. Very little pain too. Thanks again Dr South.

I didn't have to wait very long to get in to see Dr. South. The assistant explained clearly what I needed to do before seeing the doctor. The doctor came in within about 5-6 minutes later. She was very pleasant with me and questioned me in detail about my symptom, then did her exam very professionally. She then referred me to see a specialist. And then I was on my way. I was very pleased with the whole appointment.
I was taken promptly; the doctor came in in less than 5 minutes; she was concerned and attentive; I was back in my car in 30 minutes. Doesn’t get any better than that!
