Michael Kenly, MD, is a compassionate pain management specialist at Alta Orthopaedics, with locations in Solvang, Santa Barbara, and Oxnard, California. Dr. Kenly utilizes his medical and life knowledge to connect with his patients in order to effectively treat their pain and improve their quality of life.
Growing up in western Canada, Dr. Kenly has always felt a love for the outdoors. He believes that a fulfilling life is achieved by exploring and interacting with the world around us. His goal as an interventional pain management specialist is to improve patient function and quality of life through decreased pain.
Dr. Kenly completed his undergraduate degree in exercise and sport science at Brigham Young University in Oahu, Hawaii. Following graduation, he spent a year as a hiking guide in the Swiss Alps (where he met his future wife). He earned his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine before heading back out west. His postgraduate training included an internship in internal medicine and residency training in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Utah. This was followed by a year of fellowship training in interventional spine care and pain management, which he completed in Atlanta, Georgia.
His primary area of focus is pain that originates from the spine. He is able to utilize many different techniques to treat his patients’ pain. He is fellowship-trained in interventional spine care and fluoroscopically guided procedures, such as epidural steroid injections, medial branch neurotomy, spinal cord stimulation/neuromodulation, and other treatments to minimize the need for medications.
Dr. Kenly believes that the most important aspect of managing pain is for his patients to understand why they hurt and be actively involved in developing a treatment plan. He takes the necessary time to discuss the problems and the different treatment options. He also performs electrodiagnostic testing such as EMG and nerve conduction studies as needed to assist in making a diagnosis.
Dr. Kenly is a Diplomate of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Board of Pain Medicine. He is a member of the International Spine Intervention Society, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, and North American Neuromodulation Society.
Since moving to Santa Barbara in 2010, Dr. Kenly has developed a love for sailing and is a frequent visitor to the Channel Islands. He also enjoys skiing and mountain biking with his wife and daughter when they aren’t exploring far off places from Galapagos to Cape Town.

All the Doctors and the staff are Awesome!
Everyone was kind.
Everyone there is very nice
Dr Kenly took the time to explain what the procedure involved. That alone took my fear away as he performed the procedure. Staff is also great.
The wait for my appointment was not bad at all and Dr. Keenly was efficient and friendly.
Very positive
Difficult to find…I’ve seen there for two appointments and have still not met the doctor!

Appointment right on time. Met with Victoria (P.A.) and Dr. Kenly. All my questions were answered and a plan to resolve my current issue put in place. Dr. Kenly is great and my quality of life has improved immensely since he has been my pain management doctor! Highly recommend him and his staff!
I got my appointment quickly. The doctor was professional and compassionate about my needs and concerns. Health insurance issues were addressed that could effect treatment.

Professional experience and caring about their patients
Took an hour and 10 minutes to connect with doctor, but good help signing in info for records. Dr. Kenly very caring in setting up needs for next appointment - thorough in answering questions and explaining process, etc..
Great
They listened to my description of my pain, and followed up on everything. The procedure that they performed in my lower back worked. Great staff, and easy to make an appointment
Service is usually excellent. Too much time this round. Took 6.5 weeks to get treatment.
It was my first appointment with Dr. Kenly. I had never been to a pain management doctor and didn’t know what he could do for me but, he could do a lot. He’s a very pleasant man and I look forward to having him on my “team.” Alta Orthopedics appears to be a well run ship; the check in people are very nice and patient, the doctors I’ve see have all been very compitant and the strive to stay on time. Highly recommend!
With many months of dispare and actually thinking no one really grasped my issue,Dr. Kenly was able to reduce my pain down to almost nothing. Given I'm 63 and have been extremely active over the years my body has had to tolerate my adventures which at a certain point it began to revolt. I am going to ease back into a bit more activity now that I have had what I would consider the most excellent results from his care & knowledge in helping me achieve these results. A job well done. I am grateful and sincerely thankful for that , Jasper A.
Dr. Kenly cares about his patients. He is always there for my husband and me.
It was good a fun
