Nathan Strickland is a Licensed Professional Counselor with the Mental Health Service Provider designation (LPC-MHSP) in Tennessee. Before joining Cookeville, Crossville, and Sparta Medical Clinics, he worked in multiple mental health settings including a residential treatment center for adolescent boys, an adult psychiatric inpatient unit, a geriatric intensive outpatient program (IOP), a drug and alcohol IOP for adolescents and adults, and adult mobile crisis services.
Nathan completed his Master’s in clinical mental health counseling at Tennessee Tech University here in Cookeville, TN, in 2018. He uses an eclectic counseling approach couched primarily in person-centered theory, also incorporating elements and techniques from cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and existential therapy. Nathan’s counseling style is warm, unconditionally accepting, empowering, and direct, often incorporating humor.
Across his mental health work experiences as both patient and provider, Nathan has learned that many of us do not give ourselves enough credit or grace and we can be conditioned to think little of ourselves through repeated negative relationships and experiences; therefore, he seeks to meet people where they are and provide a therapy space in which anyone can feel safe to share their vulnerability for the goal of growth. Nathan is an LGBTQIA+ ally and welcomes all patients of all gender and sexual identities. He feels comfortable seeing people of all ages with issues including ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use and recovery, grief, and self-esteem.
When any issue is presented in treatment and he does not know for certain how to navigate it, Nathan feels fueled to do research and expand his skills. He enjoys research so much that while he was working in mobile crisis he co-authored an article in the International Journal on Responsibility on the subject of ethical decision-making in crisis situations. In short, he knows there is always more to learn and is eager to do so for his patients’ well-being.
In his free time, Nathan enjoys spending time with his pets and family, playing video games, reading, exercising, and cooking. He looks forward to meeting and working with you!

Doc. Wilcox is one of the best medical providers I have been to. And as retired military, I have been to many. She is easy to talk to, listens to my issues and together we work up a medical treatment plan. Great work.
