Patryk Madrid, DNP

Dr. Matthews brings an impressive background in gastroenterology, hepatology, research, education, and patient care. She earned her medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine, where she was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Prior to medical school, she conducted hepatitis C and liver disease research at the National Institutes of Health, contributing to multiple peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national scientific meetings. In recognition of her contributions, she received an NIH Director’s Award. Following medical school, Dr. Matthews completed her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she was selected to serve as Chief Resident. She was also recognized as a Star Educator for her commitment to teaching and mentoring medical students and residents. She then completed her Gastroenterology and Hepatology fellowship training at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. Throughout her career, Dr. Matthews has been recognized for excellence in leadership, teaching, and research. She was selected as an Emerging Liver Scholar by the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), reflecting her dedication to advancing the field of gastroenterology and hepatology. While her academic interests have focused on liver disease, she is passionate about caring for patients with a broad range of gastrointestinal conditions, with particular interests in colon cancer prevention and women's health. A local resident of the Annapolis area, Dr. Matthews lives with her husband and their two young sons. Outside of medicine, she enjoys spending time with her family, skiing, swimming, and exploring the Chesapeake Bay.
