The day I walk in . Anybody that knows me I was stress out an had a complex on my hernia , Dr Sheppard came in an I just knew he was going to have me ask him a million questions. Knowing me I had everything set to his office he loShow moreoked at the MRI an he notice to me I needed to build a wall on my umbilical hernia an we schedule a month later . I can’t believe ever going threw something so healthy an my outcome so far is by far the best choice an amazing to see what man kind can do in the south . I wish his family an himself rest an more prayers an better respect for people who over come fear with Male surgery like Mr Sr Sheppard . Ray Sheppard Jr., MD, has never been able to dunk a basketball and he lacks any musical aptitude, but he was blessed with a mind and talent for surgery. This, coupled with his compassionate approach to every patient who walks through his doors in Madison and Huntsville, Alabama, makes him an excellent choice for general surgery.
After graduating magna cum laude with a degree in physics from Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Dr. Sheppard went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Alabama (UAB) in Birmingham.
Dr. Sheppard completed his surgical training at the prestigious DeBakey Department of Surgery at the Baylor School of Medicine in Houston, where he was fortunate to be mentored by world-class surgeons at the renowned Ben Taub Trauma Center, as well as the famous MD Anderson Cancer Center.
During his education and training, Dr. Sheppard served as a teaching assistant both in the physics department at Georgia Tech and the anatomy department at UAB. While at Baylor, he was recognized with the Outstanding Chief Surgical Resident Award for his exemplary teaching and leadership. Today he continues as an associate professor for the Huntsville campus of the UAB Medical School.
Through his extensive training, Dr. Sheppard developed remarkable skills that allow him to handle the most complex surgical problems, as well as routine general surgical cases.

A very professional and caring physician and staff
Physician, nurse, scheduler, and ladies at the front desk were all very personable and helpful. Dr. Sheppard explained everything well and to my understanding, and answered all questions I had. The scheduler told me that Dr. Sheppard would pray with me and over me before the surgery if I so desired. Being a Christian and a minister’s wife, I was delighted by this, and will welcome his prayer.
Efficient check in. Was seen on time. Dr Spent adequate amount of time talking about process and options.
I had an abdominal hernia repair performed. It was easy to make an appointment and the surgery itself went as smoothly as possible. I’ve walked 3 miles the next day, very minimal pain, and I have almost no visible scar. Basically everything went as smoothly and perfectly as I could imagine

Dr. Sheppard is a Godsend. He listens to your concerns, clearly explains the options, and provides excellent bedside manners. I have visited both offices in Madison and Huntsville and received outstanding service. I highly recommend Dr. Ray Sheppard and his team.

Dr. Sheppard is a great surgeon. He fixed everything just right. But what makes him a great doctor is he listens. He takes time to respond even to talkative people who are just "shooting the breeze!"

He is a warm and kind physician with an excellent bedside manner. I had a great experience during my office visit today and am scheduled for outpatient surgery in early November.
