Rivka Ihejirika-Lomedico, MD, is a fellowship-trained Orthopaedic surgeon and Spine specialist at Alta Orthopaedics, located in Santa Barbara and Solvang, California. Dr. Lomedico understands that the journey to seeking a spine consultation can be challenging for patients. She aims to provide compassionate, patient-centered care while offering non-operative, minimally invasive, and traditional surgical treatments for all spine disorders.
Dr. Lomedico, a southern California native, is a graduate of Davidson College where she was a Presidential Scholar earning a full academic scholarship and three research grants. She then attended Vanderbilt Medical School where she received the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship and graduated in the top 5% of her class with Junior AOA designation along with numerous other clinical and service-oriented awards.
Dr. Lomedico completed Orthopaedic Surgical Residency including an additional basic science research year at New York University Langone Medical Center/Hospital for Joint Diseases. As a graduate of the 6-year clinician scientist track at NYU, she continued to distinguish herself during residency by receiving four grants and numerous research awards. She then trained at the Harvard Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital combined spine fellowship program in Boston, MA. There she gained extensive experience in the operative and non-operative management of cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine pathology. Here at Alta, she treats patients of all ages with traumatic, degenerative, deforming, oncologic, and congenital conditions in the spine.
Dr. Lomedico has a strong interest in bone health optimization, regenerative medicine, and wellness. She has over 100+ contributions to the scientific community including publications, presentations, and teachings. Here at Alta, she continues to engage in clinical research and collaborate with researchers locally and at major institutions. Dr. Lomedico is also a certified yoga instructor whose experience in Integrative Health allows her to provide patients with evidence-based recommendations for alternative therapies.
She is married to Mark Lomedico, and they have two beautiful children. In her spare time, she enjoys family life, running, hiking, yoga, and working on her golf game.

I have been suffering with horrible pain in my neck for months now and got the an MRI to see what needs attention. My head at times I feel when I move my head will detach from my neck and the pain. Is horrible and also being dizzy . The only time I do not hurt is when I am lying down . Now I have to wait again for a week or so to see Pain Mge. Why?
I would like you to order the MRI so hopefully I can have it before my appt. This pain is not fun. Carleen Koller

After almost 2 months of intense/debilitating back issues Dr Rivka was able to identify a few areas of vertibrae inflamation that are most likely the culprit, I know my body enough to feel she has pinpointed the issue. PT was prescribed, starting next week.
Very short. I noticed the doctor switched my next visit with another person possibly an assistant. No reason given!

She spends time and listens during appts. She explains things Thoroughly. She reads and responds to portal messages herself and she makes changes to deal with pain after surgery. I think she and her team are extremely helpful.
I felt that the appointment was rushed and I didn't have a chance to explain overall symptoms pertaining to my back. From start to finish I was given about 7 minutes for my first appt. with this doctor.
Dr Lomedico seemed to be genuinely concerned about my health.

Dear Julia, From what we can determine, the results of my EKG were not sent to your office. I left a message for Madyson but basically, I went to a cardiologist for the irregularities in my EKG. He would not approve me for surgery without a cardiac workup which I am now completing. But It will not be done by November 4 and the surgery cannot take place on that date, Probably, It will now go into the new year. Sorry for the mix up but thanks for your help.
