Originally from Harlingen, Texas, Dr. Roderick Capelo received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology at The University of Texas at Austin, then attended medical school at UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He completed his Orthopedic Surgery internship and residency at John Peter Smith/Fort Worth Affiliated Hospitals in 2004. During his first 2 years of residency, he was unsure what aspect of orthopedic surgery was right for him. His first rotation outside of John Peter Smith Hospital was in Pediatric Orthopedics at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, and he immediately found his calling. Within his first week on that rotation, Dr. Capelo knew that caring for children was his passion. Upon dedicating himself to treating children, he underwent specialized training in Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery. He completed his fellowship training in Pediatric Orthopedics at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego.
Dr. Capelo co-founded Pediatric Sports and Spine Associates in 2006. He has lived in the DFW Metroplex for over 20 years. He and his wife, Renee, have 2 daughters and a son. He enjoys spending time with his family, reading and listening to books on personal development, traveling, cooking, jogging, and working out. He and his family have lived in Colleyville since 2013.
Dr. Capelo is Board Certified in Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery and is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

We absolutely love Pediatric sports and spine Associates, and would recommend them to anyone needing orthopedic care. Dr. Capelo is great. He’s funny, my son loves his personality, and he goes out of his way to make sure the parent and the child understand what has happened and the best option in route for treatment. He and his team take such precise, and specific care every time we are in. With my child breaking 9 bones in 2 1/2 years, we have interacted with everyone on the team at some point. The front desk ladies work hard to make sure the check-in process, and scheduling is easy on the parents and schedules. The office manager is incredible, and Renee will do anything she can to help you if you need her. All of the wonderful nurses, x-ray techs, and Medical assistants have a great personalities, and my son loves to chat with them about “what he did this time” every time we are in. I’d go as far as saying, knowing a trip to see his second family, at his second home, sort of cushions the blow every time he gets hurt. ;)
We struggled to find a place to see our son, not many spine specialists who see under 18 near us, so when I got a call back from them- I had no hope for an appointment so soon. They were able to squeeze him in, just a few days later, right before Christmas! Even though my husband left the CD with the images in the other car, based on the report only - they gave us a plan to start immediately, explaining everything to our 16yr old so he could understand the importance of following the instructions so he would heal. I am so thankful for the kindness and understanding of everyone we spoke with, on the phone and in person. I was a very worried parent and they really went above and beyond to ensure that we got the answers we needed and the care that our son deserves.
Dr Capelo is awesome. He is super knowledgeable and amazing with kids. My daughter felt so comfortable. He explained everything in detail. The staff is so friendly and the office clean. Highly recommend Dr capelo
Dr. Capelo and his team are on our quick dial for any orthopedic injury needs. We appreciate Pediatric Sports and Spine for the way they have always managed to get us in day of upon injury, even when their schedule calendar was full. Thank you for taking such excellent care of us in time of need.

Awesome doctor, Amazing Care. Dr. Capelo was super detailed. He made my daughter feel comfortable and explained everything he was doing. Also, Super knowledgeable. This is our second broken bone in 5 months and Lisa is great as is the staff. I highly recommend seeing Lisa if you child has an injury.
Unfortunately we’ve been here a few times (4 boys over here). And Dr. Capelo is their absolute FAVORITE. He can communicate on their level, he is very knowledgeable and experienced. We have been very very pleased. From broken bones to random injuries, he is our guy!

Was able to be fit in on a late Friday afternoon after my daughter was diagnosed with a fracture at our local urgent care earlier that day. Every staff member we encountered was so kind, patient, and helpful. Everyone made my daughter feel seen and heard and helped make her comfortable in what was a very uncomfortable situation.
Hands down the best practice. We trust them with our kids injuries. I recommend them to everyone I know.

We had a wonderful experience with this office. Dr. Darr was amazing. She was patient, yet knew how much to push with my 4 year old, who had broken a bone in her hand. She's cautious, which as a mom of a young child, I very much appreciated.
My son saw Lisa when after hurting his ankle at sports practice. She and the whole team were thorough and knowledgeable, patient, attentive, and compassionate with. They answered all our questions clearly and never did we feel rushed. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Lisa or the practice.
