Ms. Sarah Sherman, RN ACNP-BC

Sarah Sherman, MSN, ACNP-BC, is a certified Nurse Practitioner at Richmond Gastroenterology Associates. Sarah sees patients at our Midlothian Center office located in Chesterfield, Virginia.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Virginia (UVA). She then completed her Master of Science in Nursing at Virginia Commonwealth University and became a board-certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP).

Once she received her master’s degree, Sarah transitioned from Critical Care Nurse in the Medical Respiratory Intensive Care Unit to the Nurse Practitioner position in the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at VCU Health System. She specialized in acute and chronic pancreatitis and worked under the tutelage of Dr. Bimaljit Sandhu. 

After living abroad in France for a year, Sarah received her nursing registration in the United Kingdom. She worked as a Nurse Practitioner in London at St. Mark’s Hospital and Academic Institute, specializing in intestinal and colorectal disorders. She was a member of the St. Mark’s Association and the Royal College of Nursing (RCN).

Sarah returned home to the United States and joined Richmond Gastroenterology Associates in September 2014. She currently works as our Manager of Advanced Practice, overseeing our team of Advanced Practice Providers. She is an American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) APP Committee member and serves on the Speaker’s Bureau for AbbVie.

“My travels have exposed me to a broad spectrum of cultures and beliefs, which have taught me to be more culturally aware in my practice. Our communities are becoming more diverse, and a knowledge of languages, cultural norms, religious beliefs, and healing practices can improve how we deliver healthcare.”

Sarah was born and raised in Virginia. She met her husband while studying abroad in Australia, and together they have enjoyed traveling, working, and living abroad. They enjoy mountain biking, hiking, wine tasting, and spending time with their three children.
