I was suffering from severe hair thinning for years and finally made an appointment with Dr. Rawal as a last resort. Boy am I glad I did! She took photos and also showed me live images of my scalp and hair so I could see for myself what was happening. Never once was she pushy on trying to sell me a product or service. After our long discussion it was decided that a combination of two oral medications was going to work best for my type of hair loss. Fast forward a year later and I just had a follow-up! My hair re-growth has been transformational both physically and mentally. The hair loss I was suffering before was easily slashed in half. I no longer fear brushing and washing my hair and ending up with large piles of hair. The re-growth around my hairline is unbelievable and the overall thickness of my hair has increased substantially. I came to Rawal Institute due to feeling like I was given a misdiagnosis by a dermatologist in the area I live. The dermatologist never askShow moreed the history and about familial history that the Rawal institute did. The first doctor didn't even look at my scalp & hair strands like Dr. Rawal does with her microscopic camera. Dr. Rawal took her time inspecting my head with pointing out and explaining everything to me before giving me her professional opinion. I am so glad I found a specialist in the area of hair loss. The 2 1/2 hour drive was so worth a second opinion. I will be recommending the Rawal Institute to everyone who has had some form of hair loss. I was not pushed into any product, matter of fact I didn't need anything but time/patience for new growth. About Dr. Rawal
Shamila Gupta Rawal, MD, a board-certified otolaryngologist/head and neck surgeon, specializes in the management of hair loss and rejuvenation of the face and neck at The Rawal Institute for Hair Restoration and Aesthetic Medicine. She’s the only hair restoration surgeon providing comprehensive surgical and non-surgical treatment for all types of hair loss in Madison, Wisconsin.
Dr. Rawal graduated with a Bachelor of Science magna cum laude in biomedical engineering from Northwestern University’s McCormick School of Engineering. She continued her studies at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, and following medical school, she entered the prestigious otolaryngology/head and neck surgery residency program at the University of Illinois. As a senior resident, she received recognition for her outstanding work and was presented with the Alpha Omega Alpha teaching award.
Dr. Rawal feels very strongly about keeping up with quickly evolving strategies in medicine. She is an active member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery and the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy, an Associate Member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, and previously served as a senior physician advisor, consultant, and subject matter expert for head and neck at AIM Specialty Health in Chicago.

It was just that, a Great Experience! Dr. Rawal was so very pleasant to talk with and her knowledge was evident. I felt like she really cared about me and wanted to help, which she has in many ways. Not just for the reason I came to see her. Her staff is the best. I feel a calmness when I walk thru the door feeling like everyone there really cares. It means a lot to me. I'm a nursing instructor and former nurse practitioner who strives to find the very best physician/provider to work with me to accomplish my goals which in my case was thinning hair. I found Dr Rawall to be very personable, professional and thorough in her evaluation. She offered multiple treatment options and answered all of my questions. I was particularly impressed with the IPad microscope- real time visualization of my intact hair! At this point, I decided to go with the LaserCap which she conveniently dispensed at her clinic. I had discussed the cap with my dermatologist from UW who provided multiple studies to support this type of cap (pulsed LLLT). My initial impressions of Dr Rawall and her staff couldn't have been more "right".
