I have struggled with lower back and radiating pain down my right leg for nearly two years. Tried every treatment possible and found no relief. He explained the procedure with the mri viShow moresible. Helps to have a visual-understanding of the procedure and know what to expect. We went over pain meds after surgery. Very thorough. The wait time was great! Front desk staff, had to be his relatives lol. They were just as nice. Great experience, no time wasted and know his profession. Thomas Loftus, MD, FAANS, is a board-certified neurological surgeon specializing in minimally invasive surgery and the founder of Austin Neurosurgical Institute in Austin, Texas. Dr. Loftus has been in practice for over two decades and is among the most experienced minimally invasive spine surgeons in the United States. He holds numerous patents related to minimally invasive spine surgery and has taught numerous courses regarding techniques in his field.
Dr. Loftus earned his bachelor’s degree in zoology at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, where he graduated Cum Laude. He went on to graduate with his medical degree from the University of Texas- Southwestern Medical School at Dallas in 1997. He continued his training with general surgery and neurological surgery residencies at the University of Missouri Hospitals and Clinics and was named the chief resident of neurological surgery in his final year.
To further his expertise, Dr. Loftus pursued an Endovascular/Cerebrovascular Fellowship at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri and a Complex Spine Fellowship at Columbia Orthopedic Group in Missouri.
Dr. Loftus is a member of several professional organizations, including the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery, the Texas Medical Association, the Travis County Medical Society, and the American Academy of Physicians and Surgeons. He is also a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. Throughout his career, Dr. Loftus has received several awards for excellence in his field and been recognized as a top-ranked spine surgeon from Dexur, a healthcare news and research firm.

Dr Thomas Loftus performed minimally invasive surgery to relieve the pain I was suffering. I am 6 weeks post surgery with no pain at all. The care I have received has been excellent.
I have had my fair share of bad medical staff BUT that is not Dr Loftus. I finally see recovery in my future.
Initial consultation was very delightful. From the PA to Dr. Loftus I got what I call the best conversation I had about my problem. Unfortunately, the 4 year old images may not reveal the situation consistent with what I am experiencing currently, thus the need for more imaging. I will see Dr Loftus after the imaging results are back.
I belive he is one of the best Specialists Around.

Dr Loftus and his extraordinary team are the best. I have am a unique patient and they have worked hard to ensure my procedure was smooth and recovery, which was difficult due to me being allergic to almost all pain meds, was the best it could be. They are the 3rd neurosurgeon I have seen in 3 years and highly recommend them.

Dr. Loftus has a wonderful way of explaining what is happening to your body in a way that is easy to understand and truly makes you listen. He takes the time to explain what could happen if you don’t take action, which really makes you stop and think. I know sometimes I need things explained plainly and honestly for it to really sink in—and Dr. Loftus does just that. I’m truly grateful for the way he helps make something that can feel overwhelming a little easier to understand.
Thomas is as good as they come. No BS straight forward and no unnecessary procedures. If there is not a projected positive outcome he’s not going to advise surgery!
