Dr Karas is awesome. I had knee replacement surgery at the Lincoln Park facility at 8:30am and literally was walking through my front door at 5 minutes past noon. And yes, I was walking. A Chicagoland native with the goal of giving back to his community, Dr. Karas earned his medical degree at Rush University’s Medical College in Chicago. He then went to North Carolina to complete his residency training at Duke University Medical Center. After that, he returned to Chicago to finish his fellowship training in hip and knee replacement surgery at Rush University Medical Center.
Dr. Karas’ approach to medicine involves spending time with his patients, fostering good communication, and offering the latest advances in medical technology. He has over 40 peer reviewed publications and is a committee member of the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS). Very impressed with the process before surgery. All the staff that I have come in contact with have been friendly and supportive. It is helpful the updates you get via text before surgery of reminders of what to or not to do. The video and booklet I received before surgery where also helpful.

Had my 1 year appointment and everything was very good! I would recommend Dr. Vasili Karas and his team for either a hip or knee replacement or surgery. Six weeks after my surgery, I was called to substitute as a PE teacher at a junior high school And everything went well. Now for the summer, I have been playing in golf tournaments.
He was so kind to me. Explained everything in detail and made it precisely clear what to expect with my surgery.
Dr. Kara’s Resident discussed how my knee was feeling! I told her the humid weather bothered me a little but I go to my pt. Twice a week and walk a lot and it does not bother me . Dr. Karas and his team are the Best ! Everything is covered and any questions you have are answered right away. I followed the program and was very fortunate to not have any issues. I took medication as instructed and it turned out great. Doing my other knee in August and hopefully it will.have the same outcome.

With both knees bone-on-bone and also suffering from psoriasis, my condition was one the orthopedists at NW Medical had failed to provide me with relief. A nurse friend suggested I search a University-based joint replacement practice. I secured an appointment almost three months out with Dr Karas. I was impressed with his doctor-patient manner and his efficient and personable PA, xxxx. It was his candor which impressed me most of all. He admitted that his experience with psoriasis patients was limited, and that I might have a better outcome if I was referred to another Rush Knee Replacement Specialist with more experience with patients like me. I am looking forward to that appointment in two weeks. I wish I had seen Dr Karas two years ago instead of going in that Northwestern direction.

Understood problem- explained options for treatment
Dr. Kara’s is personable and genuine. As Patient he listened to me and actually heard what I was saying. Dr. Kara’s took the time to evaluate my knee replacement done by a different surgeon. He is the reason I switched to Midwest Orthopedics for a second opinion. I would recommend him to anyone that needs an excellent orthopedic surgeon and doctor.
All I can say is that it’s been 3 weeks since the procedure and I’m already walking and climbing stairs without assistance. When I showed up at my pt appointment the therapists were amazed at my progress. Dr Karas and his staff at Rush are amazing!
