Dr. Yasser Elshatory, MD

Yasser Elshatory, MD, PhD, FACS, FASRS is a board-certified ophthalmologist, fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon and retina specialist with more than a decade of experience caring for patients with complex retinal diseases. As the founder of Elshatory Retina Associates in Plano, Texas, Dr. Elshatory combines his background as a physician-scientist with advanced surgical expertise to provide evidence-based medical and surgical care for conditions affecting the retina and vitreous. He provides care in English, Arabic, and Spanish, serving patients throughout Plano and the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Dr. Elshatory graduated summa cum laude from the University of Rochester with a degree in Neuroscience, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and selected for the Rochester Early Medical Scholars Program. He completed his medical degree and PhD in Neuroscience through the University of Rochester’s Medical Scientist Training Program. His doctoral dissertation — “The LIM-Homeodomain Protein Islet-1 is a Key Regulator of Restricted Neuronal Subtypes in the Retina and Forebrain” — earned him the Doty Award for Excellence in Neuroscience PhD Research. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Oklahoma, where he received the Medical Student Teaching Award and the Resident Research Award at the Dean McGee Eye Institute. He then completed a two-year vitreoretinal surgical fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as a Heed Foundation Fellow. Dr. Elshatory is proud to serve the diverse Dallas/Fort Worth community, offering advanced treatments for macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal detachments.
