About Hilary Simila

I grew up on the NW Oregon coast, exploring tide pools and breathing in the salty ocean air. Being surrounded by the lush forests and abundant plant life of the Pacific Northwest nurtured my love for herbs and plant medicine from an early age. As I began  studying Indigenous plant traditions, I discovered East Asian Medicine. This discovery,  combined with my heart for healing, led me to pursue formal training in Acupuncture and  Chinese Herbal Medicine.

Creating a space where you feel truly seen and heard is central to my work. I believe the deepest healing happens best when you feel relaxed and supported . My practice is rooted in compassion and inclusivity, and I am committed to providing a welcoming environment for people of all abilities, races, sizes, gender identities, and sexualities.

I hold a special place in my heart for reproductive health and feel honored to walk alongside people through fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, and into menopause. During  fertility work, I encourage both partners to come in for care. I find that this helps bridge  the gap so that partners can work together with more compassion towards one another, in the ultimate goal of building a family. I also have specialized training in integrative cancer care, as well as pediatric care, offering gentle, non-insertive therapies.

I bring with me two decades in experience as a practitioner of Acupuncture and East Asian  medicine. I believe in caring for the whole person and gently uncovering the root of imbalance  so true healing can unfold. Treatments with me may include acupuncture, East asian bodywork,  abdominal massage and customized Chinese herbal formulas. At each visit I work to collaborate,  taking time to listen, adjust, and create a plan that feels supportive and aligned with your unique  goals.

I have been fortunate to work in several integrative medical settings alongside physicians and  specialists, supporting patients through complex health challenges, including substance use disorders and cancer care. When I am not at working at Seven dragons , I also work at the OHSU  Knight Cancer Center in Astoria, Oregon, where I provide acupuncture to patients receiving  chemotherapy and radiation. It is rewarding to witness how East Asian medicine can support the  body during conventional treatment.

I earned my Master of Health Sciences in Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine from Bastyr  University in Seattle in 2003. My clinical training took place at Bastyr Center for Natural Health  and at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in Shanghai, China. Studying in China was a  profound experience that connected me directly to the living lineage of Chinese Medicine and  deeply shaped the way I practice today.

When I’m not in the clinic, you’ll likely find me wandering forest trails, soaking in the beauty of  the Northwest. I cherish time with my partner, son and our animals. I love cooking, studying  herbal medicine, and sewing.

About Renee Shankar

Hello, it’s nice to meet you here.

I am a licensed acupuncturist and Doctor of East Asian Medicine with a clinical focus on fertility, IVF, pregnancy, postpartum, and reproductive health. Over the years, I’ve had the honor of supporting patients through the deeply transformative journey of building a family, including fertility treatments, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, grief, uncertainty, and the emotional complexity that can accompany this season of life.

Part of this work was born from my own experience navigating fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum. During that time, I found myself with more questions than answers and a deep desire to better understand the body and the profound transformations involved in bringing a baby into the world. I leaned on my training in Acupuncture and East Asian Medicine to help guide me through the endless sea of information, research, and well-meaning opinions. That experience continues to shape the way I care for patients today.

I believe in cultivating a care ecosystem that supports the body’s innate capacity for repair while honoring the importance of relationship: relationship to self, community, environment, and the larger systems that shape our well-being. Within an integrative setting, I value thoughtful collaboration so you feel supported by many hands and perspectives throughout your care.

Although my work is rooted in traditional East Asian medicine I integrate evidence-informed therapeutic approaches. I have trained in a Korean style of acupuncture known as Sa’am acupuncture, as well as in the use of the Eight Extraordinary Channels, which I find especially supportive during times of transition, depletion, and emotional processing. Treatments are individualized and guided by careful listening, presence, and clinical assessment.

My clinical training includes fertility mentorship and continuing education with Laura Erlich, as well as completion of the MAMPS (Maternity Acupuncture Mentorship and Peer Support) program developed by Debra Betts and Claudia Citkovich, among other advanced perinatal and reproductive health trainings.

In addition to reproductive and perinatal health, I work with patients experiencing chronic and acute pain, stress-related conditions, fatigue, emotional overwhelm, and the physical manifestations of long-term depletion. I often incorporate therapies such as moxa, cupping, gua sha, and gentle myofascial release when appropriate.

I am also expanding my work into regenerative and earth-forward aesthetic medicine, including cosmetic acupuncture and microneedling therapies designed to support skin health through a whole systems–based lens. My philosophy of aesthetic care is rooted in restoration rather than perfection, supporting healthy aging, tissue repair, collagen production, circulation, and overall vitality while remaining deeply connected to sustainability, environmental wellness, and whole-body health. I believe our skin reflects not only internal physiology, but also the complex relationship between humans and the environment.

Born and raised in rural Northern California, I moved to Portland in 2009 and finally got around to starting a garden in 2026 (I am officially a local now;).  I live with my husband and two kids who teach me every day on what matters most in this life.

With respect, I acknowledge the original custodians of this land: the Siletz, Cowlitz, and Grand Ronde tribes.
