Dr. Karkhanis-Lavana graduated in 2000 from Tufts University Dental School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in dentistry in 1995 from Pune University’s Bharati Vidyapeeth Dental College in Dhankawadi, India.
Dr. Karkhanis-Lavana is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Massachusetts Dental Society, and its local affiliate, the Worcester Dental Society.
She completed a fellowship from the International Dental Implant Association and is placing implants at the Gardner office of the Family Dental Group.
Dr. Karkhanis-Lavana strongly believes that her patients deserve the best available care. To achieve that proficiency, she is educated in single-visit crown technology (CEREC) and dental laser technology to reduce anesthesia and achieve painless dentistry.

Assia Fain, DMD, PhD, is an experienced family dentist at Lakeside Family Dental, providing complete oral health care to people of all ages living in and around Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.
Dr. Fain began her career in Moscow, Russia. There, she earned her first dental degree and completed a residency and post-doctoral thesis in orthodontics. Dr. Fain also served as head of the orthodontic department at the Moscow Center of Pediatric Dentistry, where she specialized in the treatment of cleft lip and palate.
In 1977, Dr. Fain moved to the United States. She worked as a dental hygienist for several years, before completing her board certification tests. After earning a second dental degree from the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine at Boston University, Dr. Fain opened her private practice –– the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.
Each year, Dr. Fain attends more than 100 hours of advanced training classes and lectures. Her knowledge and expertise ensure individuals and families receive the highest quality care and the most advanced treatment possible.
Dr. Fain proudly holds membership in several professional organizations, including the International Team for Implantology, the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Association of Cosmetic Dentistry, the American Cleft Lip and Palate Association, and the Massachusetts Dental Society.
Outside of work, Dr. Fain enjoys spending time with her husband, Vitaly Fain, PhD, a professor and renowned specialist in artificial intelligence.

Nikhil M. Patel, DMD, is an experienced family dentist who can treat the oral health needs of your entire family at his self-titled office in Worcester, Massachusetts. He and his welcoming staff cater to patients from right in town to surrounding communities, restoring and enhancing smiles with care and compassion. Born in India, Dr. Patel graduated with a bachelor of dental surgery degree from Government Dental College and Hospital in Ahmedabad, India, in 1983. In the United States, he received his doctor of dental medicine degree from Boston University in 1990. Dr. Patel places an emphasis on forming close personal relationships with his patients, one of the hallmarks of his practice. He specializes in a variety of general and cosmetic dentistry services, including crowns and bridges, teeth whitening, clear braces, and preventive dentistry. Never one to rest on his laurels, Dr. Patel hones his craft by taking at least 50-60 hours of continuing education each year, which helps him to stay current on the latest dental techniques and technology.
