Some may ask, what is a Naturopathic Doctor (ND)? Naturopathic physicians combine the wisdom of nature with the rigors of modern science. Steeped in traditional healing methods, principles, and practices, naturopathic medicine focuses on holistic, proactive prevention and comprehensive diagnosis and treatment. By using protocols that minimize the risk of harm, naturopathic physicians help facilitate the body’s inherent ability to restore and maintain optimal health. It is the naturopathic physician’s role to identify and remove barriers to good health by helping to create a healing internal and external environment.
Naturopathic physicians work in private practices, hospitals, clinics, and community health centers. NDs practice throughout the United States and Canada. Qualified naturopathic physicians undergo rigorous training before they become licensed health-care practitioners.
NDs treat all medical conditions and can provide both individual and family health care. Among the most common ailments they treat are allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, obesity, respiratory conditions, heart disease, fertility problems, menopause, adrenal fatigue, adjunctive cancer care, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome. NDs can perform minor surgeries, such as removing cysts or stitching up superficial wounds. However, they do not practice major surgery. NDs are trained to utilize prescription drugs, although the emphasis of naturopathic medicine is the use of natural healing agents.

Diego Allende, DO, is the owner and founder of The Allende Centre for Regenerative Medicine & Vitality in Fresno, California. He specializes in intergrated medicine and has a board certification in family medicine and a degree in osteopathic medicine.
Dr. Allende was born in Argentina and moved to the San Francisco area with his family as a child. He and his brothers often worked in the family’s auto-body shop, which he credits for his value of hard work. When he began college at San Jose State University in San Jose, California, he continued to work full time while earning his bachelor’s degree in psychology.
After earning his degree, Dr. Allende moved across the country to attend medical school in New York. After a year, he moved back to California to earn his doctorate in osteopathic medicine from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, California. He then completed his internship and residency at the San Francisco campus of the University of California.
When he isn’t teaching his patients how to improve their lifestyles with healthy habits or administering cutting-edge regenerative treatments, Dr. Allende loves to spend his time traveling with his wife, Amira, and visiting friends and family. He adheres to a dedicated regimen of weight training, a nutritious diet, outdoor exercise, and relaxation.

Omar Eduardo Mejía, NP, is a board-certified nurse practitioner serving patients at Sunmed Health and Weight Management in Visalia, California.
Eduardo has a background in public health and more than 10 years of medical experience in prehospital medicine, critical care medicine, inpatient cardiology, palliative medicine, and, most recently, general/trauma surgery.
His interests include all aspects of internal medicine, including preventive medicine, health literacy, health education, and telemedicine. Eduardo’s goal with every patient is to listen to their concerns and work together to find a solution to maximize their health and quality of life.
Born in Jalisco, Mexico, Eduardo moved to the United States as a teenager. He is fluent in Spanish as well as Portuguese.
In his spare time, Eduardo enjoys reading, watching documentaries, going to coffee shops, traveling, learning new things, and, more than anything, spending time with his two children and wife.
Eduardo looks forward to partnering with patients on their journey to better health.
Michele Millan-Patterson, NP-C, is an experienced nurse practitioner at Sunmed Health and Weight Management in Visalia, California.
Michele is a native of Lindsay, California. She returned to the Valley after completing her Bachelor of Arts in social work from California State University, Fresno. Her first career as a social worker involved direct client care and developing programs to address the community's needs.
Michele has been involved in developing educational programs, Latino mental health programs, and hospital-based programs. While addressing the needs of underserved populations through working with the local hospital districts, Michele became impassioned with patient care.
Upon completion of this final project, she returned to academia. Michele attended the College of the Sequoias in Visalia, California, for training as a registered nurse. Her nursing experience includes the intensive care unit (ICU), cardiac ICU, the emergency department, and medical-surgical nursing.
She is a seasoned leader through her years as a clinic administrator but moved toward her goals, returning as a nurse practitioner. As a care provider, Michele embraces her patient population and team with high energy, empathy, and drive. She has long striven to serve her community best, so returning to patient care at this level is a dream come true.
"The most rewarding part of this line of work is making a difference in somebody's life," she said. "Though our lives are touched by many, there are few that leave an everlasting impact. It is my personal goal to leave a forever imprint in the life of each of my patients."
For fun, Michele loves to spend time with her husband and two sons. They enjoy traveling and exploring other states. Her hobbies include fitness (weight lifting), Bible study, reading, sewing, gardening, and cooking.
