Umar Burney MD, MBA is the founding and managing partner at Orthopaedic Specialists of Dallas. He is dual board-certified in general orthopaedics and sports medicine surgery.

Dr. Burney was born in Madison, Wisconsin. His parents were both in the teaching profession and taught the importance of learning and education. Living abroad during high school, he had the unique opportunity to graduate with a secondary education certification from the University of Cambridge in England.

He returned to the University of Wisconsin in Madison to complete his undergraduate degree in medical microbiology and immunology with a special interest in communicative diseases of the third world.

Dr. Burney attended Saint George's University School of Medicine in True Blue, Grenada, and joined the Iota Epsilon Alpha International Medical Honors Society his sophomore year. He then completed his internship and orthopaedic surgical residency at Louisiana State University Shreveport, where he received several awards for excellence in basic science research and anatomy.

After graduating from LSU, Dr. Burney completed a sports medicine and joint replacement fellowship under the tutelage of Dr. Leland Winston and Dr. Thomas Clanton at the McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Burney has served on numerous committees throughout his career. His current roles include Joint Replacement Director and Vice Chair of the Board of Managers at Texas Health Surgery Center of Rockwall. His primary focus is sports medicine and joint replacement.

Dr. Burney is married to Nazlee, an elementary educator, and they share three children. He enjoys philanthropy, family time, traveling, running, and soccer in his spare time.

Dennis DeLeon is a passionate and devoted physical therapist assistant (PTA) at Orthopaedic Specialists of Dallas, with multiple offices conveniently located in Rockwall, Wylie, Forney, and Terrell, Texas.

He was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He relocated to Texas after serving in the United States Air Force (USAF or US Air Force). 

Dennis was stationed in Hawaii, North Dakota, Portugal, and Jordan. During his time in the military, Dennis discovered a passion for helping people and wanted to pursue a career that combined this desire to help people with his love for being active.

He received an Associate of Applied Science for Physical Therapist Assistant in 2021 and looks forward to utilizing all he has learned to provide the highest quality patient care.

Kendra Breithaupt is a native North Texan, but grew up all over the United States, moving with her parents, twin brother and younger sister to their assigned Air Force bases. She received her Bachelors of Science in nursing from Georgia Southern University and attended Baylor University for her Masters in Nursing with a focus as a family nurse practitioner. Kendra is excited to return to Lakewood to care for the patients of East Dallas. She has been a nurse practitioner at Lakewood Medical Center for nine years, and is now in the same location with Lakewood Family Health. Kendra is passionate about empowering patients to live healthy lives. She enjoys teaching her clients the way common ailments affect their life, then provides realistic ways to avoid or control those disease processes.

Tara grew up in Norman, OK moving to Texas to attend Baylor University where she received her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. Upon graduation, she worked in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Medical City Children's Hospital. Sherrie Hoover, RNC-FNP completed her Master of Science in Nursing in 2012 at Texas Women’s University and has been a Nurse Practitioner for 10 years. She has lived in the Rockwall area since 2007. Sherrie is a true caregiver and has been in Nursing for over 20 years. Sherrie chose family practice because she enjoys treating patients of all ages. She is passionate about preventive health, pediatrics, geriatrics, and women’s health. Sherrie also carries multiple certifications in cosmetic injectables. Eva was born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico, and moved to the Rio Grande Valley with her family at age 10. She graduated cum laude from St. Edwards University in Austin with a Bachelor’s in Biology in 2017. Eva received several academic scholarships throughout her academic career and maintained a position on the Dean’s List. After college, she spent her first postgraduate year working in the Emergency department and volunteering at rural clinics in Mexico and Peru. Eva then attained her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from The University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley. She is bilingual and motivated to help the Corpus Christi community in their skin needs. Andrea grew up in Round Rock, TX. She graduated Cum Laude from Texas A&M University with her Bachelor of Science in Health. She then went on to receive her Master’s of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Texas Medical Branch in 2017. Prior to completing her graduate studies, Andrea worked as a medical assistant in dermatology which motivated her to focus her sights on becoming a dermatology PA.

Prior to her arrival at Heights Dermatology, Andrea specialized in gastroenterology at UTMB in League City, TX. She has received personal training in dermatology from Dr. Alpesh Desai, DO, and Dr. Tejas Desai, DO. She practices in the areas of general, cosmetic, and surgical dermatology. Andrea has a passion for providing a positive bed-side manner to formulate a diagnosis. Her goal is to actively collaborate with her patients to come up with an effective treatment plan that works for each individual patient.

She graduated from University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She competed on UGA’s NCAA Equestrian team where she was named All-American four years, obtaining a National Championship and two SEC Championship titles. She earned her Master's in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Kentucky. Liza began her dermatology career in south Florida where she practiced general and surgical dermatology for 2 years before moving to Texas. She has since earned the title of Diplomate Fellow as a member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.
