Dr. Nancy Lau received her BA at Barnard College, Columbia University. Before becoming a physician, she performed research at the Sloan-Kettering Institute. As a staff physician at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, she authored a research grant for clinical research. She has been widely published in peer-reviewed medical journals. In addition to research, Dr. Lau was an instructor, leading Problem-Based Learning groups for medical students at the Cornell Medical School. She was co-director of the Gastroenterology fellowship program at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Manhattan, and has trained many gastroenterology fellows.
Dr. Lau completed her internship at Cornell Weill Medical Center, and residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center, in New York, followed by a gastroenterology fellowship at Columbia University’s St. Luke’s Roosevelt Medical Center, and a liver fellowship at the Mount Sinai Recanati Liver Diseases and Transplantation Center. She has been named Fellow of the American Gastroenterology Association, and is a member of the Alpha-Omega-Alpha medical honor society. Dr. Christopher Schwarz is a Michigan native. He graduated from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit with his medical degree. He completed his internal medicine residency at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago before relocating to the Southeast to do his fellowship in gastroenterology at the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Schwarz is board certified in gastroenterology and hepatology.
He joined the group in 1998. Some of his clinical interest include biliary and pancreatic diseases, therapeutic endoscopy, and inflammatory bowel disease. Dr. Schwarz has been involved with fundraising for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, and the Cancer Hospital at Rex Healthcare.
