Pellicci, MD Clinical Excellence Award by the Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement faculty at HSS in recognition of his outstanding clinical skills and patient care.
He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital (LOH), the largest orthopedic residency program in the country, where he was appointed Executive-Chief Resident by the orthopedic faculty and his peers in recognition of his leadership skills and where he was awarded the Senior Resident Teaching Award by his peers. As one of two graduates of the NYU LOH 6-year, Clinician-Scientist Training Program, he was additionally awarded the Senior Resident Research Award for excellence in his performance of basic science research.
Dr. Buchalter earned his M.D. from the prestigious NYU Grossman School of Medicine where he graduated in 3 years as part of their accelerated MD Pathway, following his undergraduate studies in Biology at Cornell University where he graduated with research and Latin honors.
At every stage in his career, Dr. Buchalter has received awards and honors in recognition of his clinical, research, teaching, and leadership skills. A recipient of multiple orthopedic research grants, he has made large contributions to the orthopedic literature, having authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, multiple book chapters, and having presented his work at national and international orthopedic meetings among the world’s thought leaders in orthopedics.
Dr. Buchalter is skilled in performing a range of advanced orthopedic procedures, including hip, knee, and shoulder replacements. He utilizes the most advanced robotic, computer, and patient-specific technologies and uses minimally invasive approaches for his joint replacements, including the direct anterior, bikini incision, Superior Transverse Atraumatic Reconstruction (STAR), and subvastus knee approaches. Whether for a first-time joint replacement, Birmingham Hip Resurfacing, or a revision procedure, he is especially adept at taking care of patients that other physicians may turn away due to their surgical or medical complexities.
Michael Rieber, MD, is a skilled orthopedic surgeon who offers conservative and minimally invasive care for patients at Orthopedics Unlimited in Livingston, New Jersey. Dr. Rieber always tries to find alternative treatments to surgery. When surgery is needed, he is proud to provide state-of-the-art arthroscopy and robotic surgery.
Dr. Rieber earned his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York. He went on to pursue further training through an orthopedic surgery residency at Albany Medical Center in Upstate New York. Dr. Rieber completed his sports medicine fellowship at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
In the early 2000s, Dr. Rieber realized there was a need for more surgical joint replacement treatments as he observed patients struggling to recover from broken hips. This insight led him to develop an institute that improves the overall experience of those who need a total joint replacement in the hospital. The changes recognized include pre-operative planning, better nurse-patient ratios, and a customized recovery experience.
Another patient-focused solution Dr. Rieber volunteered to implement was pioneering the breakthrough anesthetic drug Exparel during knee surgeries. The pain medication numbs the area where it was administered for up to three days, providing more comfort to the patient post-surgery. Dr. Rieber's patients claimed that their life had improved only a week after surgery because of greater mobility.
