“Needed immediate attention To an existing ankle problem yes the x-rays don’t show anything so you’re gonna order MRI don’t know how long that’s gonna take. Meanwhile, I’m still walking around in pain and only seen a doctor to have a handshake and say yes we need to order MRI.”

This insight led him to develop an institute that improves the overall experience of those who need a total joint replacement in the hospital. The changes recognized include pre-operative planning, better nurse-patient ratios, and a customized recovery experience.
Another patient-focused solution Dr. Rieber volunteered to implement was pioneering the breakthrough anesthetic drug Exparel during knee surgeries. The pain medication numbs the area where it was administered for up to three days, providing more comfort to the patient post-surgery. Dr. Rieber's patients claimed that their life had improved only a week after surgery because of greater mobility.
