I like to use a whole language approach. Signs, gestures, verbal approximations, and use of high tech AAC devices should all be incorporated into a child's communication for children who are non-verbal or minimally verbal. I also think it is very important for the parents or guardians of the child to understand the communication goals, and to teach the parents to carry-over communication strategies with their child.
