Charles Mixson, MD, is a board-certified otolaryngologist at ENT of Athens, serving people of all ages living in Athens, Georgia, and throughout Clarke County and Northeast Georgia.
Dr. Mixson began his undergraduate education at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, earning his Bachelor of Science in biology and graduating Cum Laude with honors. He then enrolled at The Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, earning his Doctorate of Medicine.
After graduation, Dr. Mixson remained in Augusta and completed an ENT residency at The Medical College of Georgia. In 2006, he completed training and moved to Athens to join the team at ENT of Athens.
As an otolaryngologist, Dr. Mixson has special interests in pediatrics, management of obstructive sleep apnea including Inspire implantation, and surgery for the thyroid, parathyroid, and paranasal sinuses. He also has deep knowledge regarding the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis and developed the practice’s allergy center shortly after joining Dr. Sheffield and Dempsey. Dr. Mixson also works closely with his neurosurgery colleagues on the endoscopic approach to pituitary neoplasms.
Dr. Mixson proudly holds membership in several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology — Head and Neck Surgery, the American Academy of Otolaryngology Allergy, the Crawford W. Long Society, and the Medical Association of Georgia. Dr. Mixson formerly served on the board of the Georgia Society of Otolaryngology. Dr. Mixson serves as an assistant clinical professor at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG)/University of Georgia (UGA) Medical Partnership in the Department of Otolaryngology.
When he isn't at work, Dr. Mixson enjoys spending time with his wife, Jordan, and their two children. He’s an avid cyclist and is passionate about live music and art. He’s served on the board for Nuci’s Space, a non-profit dedicated to helping Athens' teaming music scene with mental health issues.

I had several issues. He dealt with them all and did not seem rushed at all. He was very helpful and attentive.
Staff called and offered to move up my appointment from end of month to almost the first of the month. New patient forms are brief and easy Dr. Mixson saw me timely, discussed my history confirmed earlier testing. Straight talk, prompt congenial support staff, neat, clean, efficient and well organized office inspires confidence and exceeded expectations touching every base covering every question. Dr Mixson evaluated my problem and came up with a game plan after our initial appointment. Very satisfied. Only drawback was waiting time to be seen.
Dr. Mixson and his team are fantastic. He worked very well with my toddler through the process of getting tubes in her ears and the recovery afterward.
