I entered the relationship with what I believed to a difficult case. My first visit involved asking the doctor for his recommendation re what type lens to have inserted. His advice was opposite to what I thought. I followed hisShow more advice and am so very glad I did. Also my cataract has formed on top of a shingles scar, and mom has suffered 2 detached retinas years prior. I had put off surgery until eye was not correctable via lenses. Dr Gilbert did a commendable job handling it all. Vision is far better than anticipated an recovery has been complication free! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! His optometrist Michelle, makes the testing and prescription evaluation a joy. Receptionists always helpful and supportive. Overall experience - the best!
Dr. Lee is amazing. She has a positive, upbeat attitude and interacts well with her patients. As a first time contact wearer at age 50 and someone who did not feel comfortable wearing glasses, Dr. Lee was able to come up with a soShow morelution and explain topics in a way that I could understand. She is patient and spends careful time to make sure that you feel comfortable. Adding a bit of humor to her approach also helps and is one of her strong suits! I have enjoyed all my visits with Dr. Lee, and look forward to many more!
David D. Gilbert, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgery and glaucoma. He practices at Diablo Eye Associates in Walnut Creek, California.
Dr. Gilbert grew up in the east bay of San Francisco and later graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s in biomedical engineering. He completed his glaucoma fellowship training at Stanford University.
Dr. Gilbert received his Medical Degree from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He stayed at Wake Forest for his ophthalmology residency, where he served as co-chief resident and twice received the resident research award for his publications on glaucoma surgical advances. After residency, Dr. Gilbert returned to the West Coast to complete glaucoma fellowship training at Stanford University and was on the clinical staff. He has authored several papers and given numerous lectures related to glaucoma care.
Dr. Gilbert is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Glaucoma Society, and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He currently serves as a counselor for the Glaucoma Research Foundation. He has been a clinical faculty instructor at the University of California, San Francisco, and a past chair of the Ophthalmology department at John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek. As a glaucoma subspecialist, he has expertise in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma. Dr. Gilbert has performed cataract procedures, glaucoma surgeries, and laser surgeries for over 17 years.
