Matthew Rogell, MD, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon at Somers Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine Group. He has practiced in the greater Danbury, Connecticut, area since 2006.
With fellowship expertise in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery, Dr. Rogell also specializes in procedures for adult total joint and reconstruction of the knees, hips, and shoulders. He uses the latest technology, bringing to his patients the use of stem cell and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapies and patient-specific joint reconstruction.
He attended Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, followed by two years of research at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Rogell attended Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his surgical internship at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He then completed his orthopaedic surgical residency at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York, and St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City. Afterward, he returned to MedStar Union Memorial Hospital to complete a sports medicine fellowship.
During his years of training, Dr. Rogell was affiliated with the New York Rangers, the Baltimore Ravens, Baltimore Blast, Junior Olympics, and various college and high school teams. His career includes working with the Danbury Militia football team, the Danbury Whalers and Titans hockey teams, the Danbury Westerners baseball team, and local high schools. He also volunteers his time with our veterans through Warrior Hike.
He is recognized as a NY Top Doctor for 2024–2025 by NY Top Docs (USA Top Docs Division)

He has always been an athlete who enjoys playing soccer, rugby, and skiing. Dr. Rogell is an avid reader, and enjoys hiking with his family and working on his 1967 Ford Mustang. He lives with his wife, two children, and rescued black lab in Fairfield County.

Outstanding - from initial call for appointment to efficient office staff to exceptional level of care provided by Dr. Rogell. This is after a really bad experience with a prominent Orthopedic practice in Danbury CT.

I highly recommend Dr. Rogell. He is terrific. Calm, compassionate, smart and knowledgeable. His diagnosis of my shoulder injury and subsequent recommendations for treatment were helpful and realistic. His assistant Alicia is also extremely helpful.
Everyone at Somers Orthopedic is friendly and handle you with great care. I had been with Dr. Gray before he was with this practice and was with him up until his retirement, good man, great Dr. The same can be said about Dr. Rogel, who has taken care of multiple injuries at this point, good man, great Dr and excellent surgeon. Hopefully no more
Walked in to urgent care and 5 min later they are taking an x ray. 10 min later in a room waiting for doctor. Excellent speed service and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Dr Rogell is an excellent Dr I would recommend him to others however The practice has a huge problem with communication i Could notget through via telephone. I had a medical emergency and no one called me back. I had to call four times very disappointed.

Dr. Carlesi is an amazing Physician who is compassionate and knows his craft. He always has ideas to try to make things better or less painful. He has been my doctor for many years now, and I wouldn’t think of seeing anyone else!!!

Dr. Rogell and his staff are always professional, extremely knowledgeable in their profession and available to address any question. Dr Rogell has completed two surgeries on me, have a third to be addressed and others waiting to be scheduled. I have complete confidence in Dr. Rogell’s ability as an Orthopedic Surgeon and direction he may recommend in any circumstance.
Dr Carlesi has been my doctor for over a decade. I had been searching for several years to find the right doctor for me. Even though I am an RN and in the medical field for over 30 years, it was not that simple for me. After an injury causing herniated discs, etc.,… which caused unbearable pain almost constantly which in the beginning It felt like it started from the top of my head to my toes. I had previously seen,orthopedic specialists/pain management, neurologist, who were telling me there was nothing they could do for me. For some reason, their first thought was invasive surgery and two of the doctors said that I would not even survive surgery so there was nothing they could do for me I was overwhelmed physically and mentally. How would I be able to live the rest of my life feeling the way I did at that time. Then I was referred to Dr. CARLESI !! He is not only extremely knowledgeable, Think out of the box but he is one of the most compassionate people and Drs I have met. There ARE alternatives other than major surgery that can at least lessen the pain !!! I searched for a couple years to find the right Dr until I got it right. I absolutely recommend Dr Carlesi to anyone who is looking for relief from the constant overwhelming suffering, that people like me with chronic and acute pain deal with.
