My new Podiatrist is awesome. He’s attentive, thorough, very professional, and understanding. Even though I was 15 minutes late for this appointment due to my not being able to find his office in a timely manner, I was still able Show moreto be seen and he and all his staff were very kind and supportive. I was very upset with myself because I could not find the office and I didn’t want to be late and mess up their schedule, but they all helped to calm me down and I was seen as soon as a room opened up. Thank you Doctor and kind staff for being nice to an old, confused woman who became disoriented when I could not find the office. I kept driving around and round until I reached someone by phone. I truly appreciated the warm treatment and understanding that I received that day. You are the best!
The procedure went as expected. My low rating was based on 2 things. 1) the receptionist call to remind me of my appt. was difficult. Her communication skills lacked severely, and I had need to scold her to provide me all the infoShow morermation, who was she representing, what was the appt. for and to speak clearly and enunciate her words. 2) I am asked to arrive 15 minutes early. Why? We are in the waiting area for 20 minutes, then placed in a room for 30 minutes, before the doctor arrives. If I arrive on time, I expect to be seen on time. My time is as valuable if not more.
Steven Wrege, DPM, is a podiatrist at Foot & Ankle Specialists of New Mexico. At the practice’s locations in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, South Valley, Edgewood, and Grants, New Mexico, he proudly provides comprehensive foot and ankle care.
Dr. Wrege is a graduate of Indiana University Bloomington, where he received his undergraduate degree in chemistry. He received his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine in 1988 from Des Moines University in Iowa before completing his residency at the VA Medical Center in Albuquerque. He then went on to complete a fellowship with the Indiana Podiatric Medical Association.
Dr. Wrege is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery in foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot/ankle surgery. Dr. Wrege has been president of the American Diabetes Association – Mountain States Region for Healthcare and Education, where he focused on the prevention of amputation in patients with diabetes. From 2010-2012, his peers elected him as president of the New Mexico Podiatric Medical Association.
In the medical review edition of Albuquerque The Magazine, Dr. Wrege has been consistently listed as one of the city’s best podiatrists. In 2010, a guide to America’s Top Podiatrists by Consumers Research Council of America also named Dr. Wrege one of the nation’s top podiatrists. He was named Podiatrist of the Year by New Mexico Podiatric Medical Association in 2013.
Dr. Wrege has been practicing in Albuquerque since 1992. He possesses the rare combination of an excellent surgeon and a friendly, caring, and down-to-earth personality. Dr. Wrege takes pride in treating his patients in the same way that he would treat his own family. Although he is a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon, rarely is surgery the first option for the majority of foot and ankle problems. Most of the time, he can get patients better without surgery.
When he’s away from the office, Dr. Wrege enjoys skiing, golfing, scuba diving, and traveling with his family. He is married to a native of Albuquerque, and they have two children.

Excellent Doctor and staff. For the first time in a long time a Doctor (Doctor Peterson) took the time to explain the possible causes of my issue, provided me my options, allowed me to decide, and proceeded to take care of the matter. Support staff is just as good. Very knowledgeable and ready to assist their patient (me).
