I completed my Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology in 1997. Since then I have studied countless hours learning new theoretical approaches informed by science and art. I have spent hundreds of hours in supervision and worked with a variety of populations. For 8 years, I practiced part-time and worked with Dr Vijapura on phase II and phase III pharmaceutical trials. All these things have added knowledge and depth to my understanding of people. 23 years later, I am focused on working with people struggling with transitions. Transitions occur in many places and are influenced by many factors. Mood disorders, damaged or absent relationships, those who are attempting to cope with circumstances or situations that feel beyond their control.
Bottom Line: Through my own experiences with self-doubt, mistakes, relationships (and oh yes, education) I have come to believe that people grow when they choose courage over comfort, vulnerability over Shame.
Olivia Hernandez Gonzalez, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist at Angel Kids Pediatrics in Jacksonville, Amelia Island, and Saint Johns, Florida. She is a certified trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy specialist and certified in parent-child interaction therapy. Dr. Hernandez Gonzalez graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of North Florida (UNF) in Jacksonville with a Bachelor of Science in Child Psychology. She attended the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa, where she obtained her Ph.D. in School Psychology.
Dr. Hernandez-Gonzalez completed her pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology at the prestigious Munroe-Meyer Institute at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. After completing her training, she relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, and joined the Angel Kids Pediatrics team. Dr. Hernandez Gonzalez has worked in hospitals, primary care clinics, and school settings. She has also received extensive training in administering the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2). She has experience in assessing and diagnosing Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder, Learning Disorders, Anxiety, and Depression, among other mental health disorders in the pediatric population.
She also has extensive training in evidence-based therapy models, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA). Dr. Hernandez-Gonzalez feels passionate about promoting integrated behavioral health in pediatric primary care, increasing access to mental health services for families of diverse backgrounds, and has been a change-maker and leader in normalizing treatment for mental health services.

Dr. Ruiz grew up in Puerto Rico and received her bachelor’s in Psychology and Mental Health from the University of Puerto Rico in 2007. She completed her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, with a certificate in couples and family therapy from the Ponce Health Sciences University, also in Puerto Rico.
Dr. Ruiz has over three years of postdoctoral experience in assessing and diagnosing Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder, Learning Disorders, Anxiety, and Depression, among other mental health disorders in the pediatric population. Prior to joining Angel Kids Pediatrics, Emily spent several years providing direct behavioral support to children with developmental differences, which helped shape her passion for pediatric care and assessment.
Emily earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from the University of Florida, where she also was a Division I student-athlete, competing in cross country and track. Her academic and athletic experiences strengthened her skills in discipline, teamwork, and perseverance, which she brings into her clinical work every day.
