Ray Sheppard Jr., MD, has never been able to dunk a basketball and he lacks any musical aptitude, but he was blessed with a mind and talent for surgery. After graduating magna cum laude with a degree in physics from Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Dr. Sheppard went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Alabama (UAB) in Birmingham.
