Experienced urologist Emil M. Kheterpal, MD, brings more than a decade of experience in urologic oncology and robotic urology surgery to the Associated Urologists of North Carolina, practicing out of their Raleigh and Wake Forest locations.
Dr. Kheterpal began his medical career in Massachusetts and obtained his Doctor of Medicine from Boston University. Dr. Kheterpal then completed a urology residency at Henry Ford Hospital and the Vattikuti Urology Institute, a world-renowned leader in robotics and robotic surgery in Detroit.
Before entering private practice, Dr. Kheterpal attended New York University to complete the Bruce Sherman fellowship in urologic oncology. There, Dr. Kheterpal was an early adopter of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the prostate for the diagnosis of prostate cancer. Additionally, Dr. Kheterpal completed a brief fellowship at the Kulkarni Endosurgery Institute’s Center for Reconstructive Urology in Maharashtra, India.
Dr. Kheterpal subsequently worked in a large health care system in New York as Director of Urologic Oncology and Robotic Urology Surgery. After he met his wife, he moved to North Carolina to be closer to family and joined the team at the Associated Urologists of North Carolina.
Dr. Kheterpal specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer and regularly uses cutting-edge treatments — robotic surgery and high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) robotic surgery. He is an expert at robotic surgery for prostate and kidney cancer as well as complex reconstructive surgeries. He enjoys caring for patients with general urology issues including kidney stones, low testosterone, benign prostate enlargement and is an expert at the urolift procedure.
Dr. Kheterpal loves spending one-on-one time with his patients and provides the highest quality of care based on the most recent literature. He tries to ensure patients are well informed about their options and comfortable with the treatment plan.
In his spare time, he likes to travel, cook and spend time with his family.
Alex Lesani, MD is proud to offer the latest and most advanced treatment options in urology at his practice in Las Vegas, Nevada. With over sixteen years of experience and a patient-centered focus on minimally invasive techniques, it’s no wonder that more Nevadans choose Dr. Lesani for robotic surgery than any other urologist. A board-certified urologist, Dr. Lesani provides care not only to Las Vegans but also to patients from Southern Utah as well as Northern Arizona.
Dr. Lesani attended the University of Texas Health Science Center, where he earned his medical degree. He later completed a surgical internship and urology residency at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine in Cleveland, and a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago. He served as an instructor of urology at Northwestern Medical Center prior to joining Las Vegas Urology.
Dr. Lesani adheres to the philosophy that “it’s not the cancer you remove from the patient, but rather it’s the patient you preserve from cancer.” This focus on patient care shines through in his work, and he remains dedicated to providing the safest, least disruptive, minimally invasive care whenever possible, including the latest in robotic procedures.
As a highly respected robotic surgeon and a fellowship-trained urologist in southern Nevada, Dr. Lesani‘s academic work has been presented at urology conferences at home and abroad. In his spare time, he gives back to his peers and the medical community, publishing articles and authoring chapters in books such as the “Mastery of Surgery” and “Management of Urologic Malignancies.” He serves as an invited faculty for the North American Robotic Urology Symposium, an organization dedicated to promoting cutting edge advances in robotics surgery.
“Provided explanations and instructions that were clear and easy to understand. The procedure was efficient and the experience was completed in a timely manner. Any and all questions were answered. I would recommend the service provider to anyone considering having this procedure done.”

Why Urology?
The biggest reason I chose urology is that you go to medical school and do all of these rotations. The ones I kept enjoying the most and had the most fun seemed to be the urologists. There are very few specialties that allow you to follow patients throughout their entire life; kidney stones, for instance, is a life-long disease. So you establish relationships with these patients. You get a unique combination of patient relationships and continue to do surgical-related procedures. It makes it unique compared to a lot of other medical fields. I treat patients the same way I want to be treated. It goes a long way with the empathy you portray. Empathy is difficult for people to know how to express when you haven't gone through it yourself. That is a huge part of how we manage our practice.
