Vanessa Baratta MD, MHS is a colorectal surgeon at the Colon and Rectal Surgeons of Greater Hartford, the largest dedicated colon and rectal surgery group in New England. Dr. Baratta is board certified in general surgery and fellowship-trained at the Lahey Clinic.
Dr. Baratta graduated Summa Cum Laude from Yale University, double majoring in Molecular Biology and French. She obtained her medical degree at Brown University and returned to New Haven, CT to complete her General Surgery residency at Yale. During residency, she obtained a NIH T32 research grant to study the effects of targeted nanoparticle drug delivery in colitis mouse models and completed a Master of Health Science. She also helped create a robotic surgery curriculum with Da Vinci representatives to optimize resident education. She looks forward to applying these skills and robust research training to a career in colorectal surgery.
She completed her subspecialty training in colon and rectal surgery at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts. During fellowship, she focused on minimally invasive techniques for treating colorectal cancer, diverticular disease, and inflammatory bowel disease. She was also trained in advanced endoscopic resection of colorectal polyps. In her practice, she looks forward to providing the highest quality of medical care for her patients. Dr. Chang graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a Bachelor’s in Biochemistry. He subsequently obtained a M.S. in Biochemistry at Tufts and completed his thesis at UCSF studying the role of tumor markers on microRNA biogenesis. He returned to New England to study medicine at Tufts and completed a fellowship as the Howard Hughes Fellow at Rockefeller University in New York City.
After medical school, he embarked on a General Surgery Residency at the University of Connecticut in Farmington, CT. This led to a research fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as the Garbose Family Foundation Research Fellowship. He eventually returned to Connecticut to complete a colon and rectal surgery fellowship at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center.

Robert Lewis, MD, FACS, is a partner at the Colon and Rectal Surgeons of Greater Hartford, the largest dedicated colon and rectal surgery group in New England, with offices in Bloomfield and South Windsor, Connecticut. Dr. Lewis is board certified in both general surgery and colon and rectal surgery, and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Lewis earned his undergraduate degree in biochemistry from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. After spending time working at the Boston City Hospital, he then pursued his doctorate in medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. While there he completed an additional post-graduate fellowship in Anatomic and Surgical Pathology. He continued training at the University of Pennsylvania, completing a residency in general surgery, as well as translational research at the Harrison Department of Surgical Research. After that, he underwent a year of subspecialty training in colon and rectal surgery at the University of Minnesota before happily joining this practice in 2014.
Dr. Lewis is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, the Frank Netter School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University, and the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is the program director of the fellowship training program in colon and rectal surgery at Saint Francis Hospital, the only advanced training program of its kind in Connecticut, and the director of the surgical rotation at the Eastern Connecticut Health Network’s family medicine residency.
Most importantly, Dr. Lewis is committed to delivering the best care to his patients, utilizing advanced minimally invasive techniques, including cutting edge robotics, removal of large polyps using flexible endoscopy, and transanal minimally invasive surgery, as well as offering rarely available treatments for fecal incontinence, anal fistulas, and anal cancer prevention.

Andrew Raissis, MD, FACS, is a partner at the Colon and Rectal Surgeons of Greater Hartford, the largest dedicated colon and rectal surgery group in New England, with offices in Bloomfield and South Windsor, Connecticut. Dr. Raissis’s career as a colon and rectal surgeon began with years of higher education. First, he graduated with a biology degree from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut, and then earned his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, CT. During his time in medical school, Dr. Raissis volunteered his time providing ambulatory care to underserved homeless and migrant populations.

Rachel B. Experienced urologist Emil M. Kheterpal, MD, brings more than a decade of experience in urologic oncology and robotic urology surgery to the Associated Urologists of North Carolina, practicing out of their Raleigh and Wake Forest locations.
Dr. Kheterpal began his medical career in Massachusetts and obtained his Doctor of Medicine from Boston University. Dr. Kheterpal then completed a urology residency at Henry Ford Hospital and the Vattikuti Urology Institute, a world-renowned leader in robotics and robotic surgery in Detroit.
Before entering private practice, Dr. Kheterpal attended New York University to complete the Bruce Sherman fellowship in urologic oncology. There, Dr. Kheterpal was an early adopter of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the prostate for the diagnosis of prostate cancer. Additionally, Dr. Kheterpal completed a brief fellowship at the Kulkarni Endosurgery Institute’s Center for Reconstructive Urology in Maharashtra, India.
Dr. Kheterpal subsequently worked in a large health care system in New York as Director of Urologic Oncology and Robotic Urology Surgery. After he met his wife, he moved to North Carolina to be closer to family and joined the team at the Associated Urologists of North Carolina.
Dr. Kheterpal specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer and regularly uses cutting-edge treatments — robotic surgery and high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) robotic surgery. He is an expert at robotic surgery for prostate and kidney cancer as well as complex reconstructive surgeries. He enjoys caring for patients with general urology issues including kidney stones, low testosterone, benign prostate enlargement and is an expert at the urolift procedure.

Dr. Bassem Eldaif is a board-certified urologist who enjoys providing exceptional patient care since his arrival to Melbourne in 2012. After many years in a large group practice setting, Dr. Eldaif made his dream a reality by opening his private practice to deliver the most exceptional care in a patient-centered personalized setting.Dr. Eldaif founded the Center for Advanced Urology & Robotics in Melbourne, Florida, to continue providing specialized urologic care to his patients from Brevard county and beyond. Before opening the Center for Advanced Urology & Robotics, Dr. Eldaif was an attending staff at the Cleveland Clinic in South Florida. He then served as Clinical Director of Robotic Surgery at Excela Health System in the greater Pittsburgh area, and most recently as attending staff at Wuesthoff Health System.
Continually recognized a top student then resident throughout his medical education and surgical training, Dr. Eldaif is also a recognized researcher with multiple presentations and published studies. Furthermore, he proudly donated his time and expertise serving on medical mission trips to Africa and South America.
