Dr Brezina was born and raised in Midland, Texas. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin with a BA from the Plan II honors program with an emphasis in philosophy. He then attended medical school at Texas Tech, and his residency in orthopedic surgery at Louisiana State University Shreveport. Dovie McVean obtained her Bachelors of Science in Nutrition of Allied Health at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center in May of 1991.
