Michael Rieber, MD, is a skilled orthopedic surgeon who offers conservative and minimally invasive care for patients at Orthopedics Unlimited in Livingston, New Jersey. Dr. Rieber always tries to find alternative treatments to surgery. When surgery is needed, he is proud to provide state-of-the-art arthroscopy and robotic surgery.
Dr. Rieber earned his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York. He went on to pursue further training through an orthopedic surgery residency at Albany Medical Center in Upstate New York. Dr. Rieber completed his sports medicine fellowship at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
In the early 2000s, Dr. Rieber realized there was a need for more surgical joint replacement treatments as he observed patients struggling to recover from broken hips. This insight led him to develop an institute that improves the overall experience of those who need a total joint replacement in the hospital. The changes recognized include pre-operative planning, better nurse-patient ratios, and a customized recovery experience.
Another patient-focused solution Dr. Rieber volunteered to implement was pioneering the breakthrough anesthetic drug Exparel during knee surgeries. The pain medication numbs the area where it was administered for up to three days, providing more comfort to the patient post-surgery. Dr. Rieber's patients claimed that their life had improved only a week after surgery because of greater mobility.
