Helix Neuropsychiatric Center (Helix NPC) is a psychiatry treatment center that offers cutting-edge, evidence-informed, holistic mental health care for children, teens, and adults across the lifespan living in and around El Segundo, South Bay, Los Angeles, California, in person, and by telepsychiatry across California.
Gil Hoftman, MD, PhD, is our founder and lead psychiatrist, double board-certified in child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry, and a PhD in developmental and molecular neuroscience with specialized postdoctoral training in neurobehavioral genetics.
With expertise in neurodevelopmental conditions (e.g. autism and ADHD), psychosis, schizophrenia, transcranial magnetic stimulation using NeuroStar, and motivational interviewing, he is passionate about building relationships to better the lives of those who are suffering. He devotes his time and expertise to providing comprehensive mental health care to those who feel confused, afraid, or vulnerable about their mental fitness. Fighting stigma is a key component of the treatment approach.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Hoftman continues to serve as a Faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry at UCLA, which allows him to continue investigating adolescent psychosis risk and contribute to the scientific community’s understanding of the neuropsychiatric basis of psychosis and schizophrenia. Dr. Hoftman is also active as a psychiatrist at PAND Health's CA OnTrack comprehensive program for treating early psychosis, where he provides psychiatric services to individuals experiencing early psychosis: https://pandhealth.com/

Dr. Brittany Tarrant was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland to a family who encouraged her to follow her dreams – even if that meant humoring a 5-year-old who exclaimed that she would be a doctor one day. Dr. Tarrant went on to complete her undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Maryland, College Park. There, she discovered her love for the human brain and mental health and knew that psychiatry would be a great fit. She completed her master’s degree at Georgetown University and then her Doctor of Medicine degree at Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. She then set her sights on the sunny skies and warm weather here in Los Angeles and completed her general adult psychiatric training at UCLA.
Dr. Tarrant is board-certified in Adult Psychiatry and is board-eligible for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She trained at UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience & Human Behavior and Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, where she completed both her residency and fellowship. Dr. Tarrant is passionate about mental health and treating those who are often overlooked and forgotten in our society. Her clinical interests include treating a wide range of psychopathologies including psychotic and mood disorders, trauma, and special populations including people of color, women, children and young adults, gender and sexual minorities, veterans, and individuals involved in welfare and criminal legal systems. She is dedicated to advancing the field of psychiatry through compassionate, thoughtful, and culturally humble care while working to eliminate barriers to accessing care and de-stigmatizing mental illness.
Outside of clinical work, Dr. Tarrant is involved in teaching, mentorship, community outreach, and various leadership positions. She is dedicated to creating spaces of healing and inclusion and has been engaged in diversity, equity, and inclusion work at UCLA and beyond. When not at work, you can find her enjoying a relaxing day with family and friends, exploring the local food scene, or traveling near and far.
