Dr. Adam Nicholas has over 10 years of experience practicing psychiatry in the Tri-City area. Dr. Nicholas is passionate about providing care for patients with severe mental illness and those in crisis. He began practicing inpatient psychiatry at McLaren Bay Region in 2011 and he continues to provide care for patients on the behavioral health unit and also on the medical floor as a part of the consultation liaison service. Dr. Nicholas also assists and supervises in the care of patients at the partial hospitalization program and geriatric psychiatry unit at McLaren Bay Region. He provides leadership as chairperson of the psychiatry department and Medical Director of the of the behavioral health unit. In addition to his other roles, Dr. Nicholas also supervises medical students and residents on their psychiatry rotations as clinical assistant professor of psychiatry through the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University.
I am dual board certified child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist. I see clients from age 12 and up. People come to treatment for all sorts of reasons — anxiety, depression, trauma, difficulty functioning at work or school, family conflict, challenges in relationships, low self-esteem, or simply a desire to learn more about themselves. As a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist with expertise in both medication management and psychotherapy, I can help patients develop a treatment plan that meets their needs. My style is guided by warmth and flexibility, with the goals of helping patients build insight and reduce symptoms.
I create individualized treatment plans, assessing patients' goals, unique life experiences, and biological risk factors. While medication is useful in some cases, I am dedicated to helping my patients achieve lasting change through therapy as well.
