She began her career at John Peter Smith hospital as an RN in the Psychiatric Emergency Center and has additional experience in critical care and the emergency department. Over the years, she has worked with many diagnoses, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and personality disorders. Bri is a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community and enjoys giving back to the community that she is a part of. She offers secular, evidenced based treatment and is passionate about helping others. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with her children.

She started her career working as a registered nurse and has over 20 years of experience in specialties such as med-surg, home care and orthopedic care in addition to psychiatry. Akunna received her Master’s of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain College of Nursing and her Post-Master’s Certificate in Psychiatry and Mental Health from Regis College, Boston Massachusetts.
