Originally from Boston Massachusetts, she was educated at first at Mass General Hospital, and later at Boston College. She worked as a Registered Nurse for many years in cardiothoracic nursing as well as brain injury and spinal cord rehabilitation. She relocated to Texas in 1997 and worked at The Texas Instituted for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) before returning to UTMB to continue her education. She graduated from UTMB as a Family Nurse Practitioner and has special interests in Women’s Health, Diabetes and Hypertension. Jamecka Britton serves as the Head of Transwomen’s Health for Reimagine Our Community, Inc. She is a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and holds degrees in nursing (MSN, APRN, and FNP-BC). Now, she may be found residing in Atlanta, Georgia. Since 2009, she has been working in the healthcare industry. She began her career in the field as a licensed practical nurse in Memphis, where she attended the Tennessee Technology Center. Southwest Tennessee Community College awarded her an associate degree in registered nursing in 2013, the same year she graduated with the degree. She attended Mississippi University for Women in Tupelo, Mississippi, and obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree there in 2017. She recently graduated from Walden University with a Master of Science in Nursing degree, specializing in family nurse practitioner. Her undergraduate degree was in nursing. 

The eldest of her four sons is currently doing active service in the United States Navy, making her a proud mother indeed. 

Jamecka has over 14 years of experience working in the nursing field in a variety of roles. She gained most of her knowledge and expertise while serving as a travel nurse during the height of the COVID pandemic. She is extremely enthusiastic about working within the LGBTQIA+ community and concentrating on transwomen's health to assist with the disparities that are produced by prejudice and other factors directed against women of color who identify as transwomen.
