About Dr. Jeffrey Golen, MD

Central Florida Ophthalmology (CFO) is a premier, top-tier ophthalmology practice offering cataract surgery, cornea treatment, glaucoma management, and more. From the office in Oviedo, Florida, founder Dr. Jeffrey R. Golen, MD, and the team specialize in comprehensive ophthalmology to provide their patients with the best eye care possible.

Dr. Golen is originally from the metropolitan Detroit area of Michigan, and has always loved science. Throughout his adolescence, he was particularly attracted to biology and was torn between becoming a scientist or a physician. He notes that the building of community and daily interaction with patients pointed him toward medicine rather than scientific research.

Attending the University of Notre Dame on a full-ride ROTC scholarship, Dr. Golen graduated and fulfilled his military obligation as a United States Army Captain in the Ohio National Guard while earning his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati's College of Medicine. He moved to Tampa, Florida, for his ophthalmology residency at the University of South Florida. After residency graduation, Dr. Golen completed a cornea fellowship at the F.I. Proctor Foundation at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

Prior to moving back to Florida for private practice, Dr. Golen was on faculty at the University of Virginia for three years as an ophthalmologist, cornea specialist, cornea and cataract surgeon, and assistant residency program director. At UVA, Dr. Golen treated complex cataracts, severe traumas, advanced infections, and congenital eye disorders. Given the severe disease state of some of the cornea cases, he even implanted multiple Boston Keratoprosthesis corneal transplants, a part prosthetic, part biologic artificial cornea.

Now in private practice at Central Florida Ophthalmology (CFO) in Oviedo, FL, Dr. Golen and his team treat various eye conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye, pterygium, diabetic eye disease, and corneal pathology. The team’s specialization and expertise in general ophthalmological care provide the foundation of optimal eye health for their patients.

Dr. Golen is a lifelong athlete, as well as a health and fitness fan. You will often hear him discussing lifestyle optimization with his patients, with the goal of improving overall health and wellbeing. He enjoys reading nonfiction books, weight training, sports of every variety, live music, and especially outdoor activities. His favorite activity is spending time with his wife and two children.

Call the office, send us a text message via the practice website feature, or use the convenient online booking tool to book an appointment at Central Florida Ophthalmology.

About Dr. James Cohn, MD

Dr. James N. Cohn has been committed to offering complete eye care needs and ophthalmologic services to those in Fremont, California — through his office in the Bay Area — for over 30 years.

Dr. Cohn earned Phi Beta Kappa honors at the University of Illinois at Chicago before receiving his medical degree at the prestigious University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.

Dr. Cohn completed his residency training at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, and was certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1990. Dr. Cohn has also been selected to be a mentor to the ophthalmology residents at Stanford University.

Dr. Cohn obtained LASIK training in Europe before the procedure became FDA approved in the US. This instruction made it possible for him to be one of the first ophthalmologists in the Bay Area to perform refractive laser surgery, and be one of the few VSP designated panel member LASIK surgeons.

Additionally, Dr. Cohn sees both children and adults for routine eye exams, and he also provides care for those with cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetes.

“The woman who did my initial exam - im sorry I don’t remember her name but she has very long hair- was so sweet, it made my visit very pleasant and comfortable. Doctor Fuerst took extra time to explain some eye things to me, which made my visit educational! I appreciated that my exam was thorough and I felt taken care of. ”

About Dr. David Paikal, MD

A Message from Dr. Paikal

Dear Friend,

I welcome you to our website, and hopefully, at some point, to our office located in Encino, California. The purpose of this website is to give potential patients some basic information about my office and myself, David Paikal, MD. My practice specializes in comprehensive ophthalmology, where I favor conservative approaches, striving to be true to the bioethical tenet of “first do no harm.”

My staff and I will do everything possible to take the best care of you. The reason we can do so is because we love what we do: helping people to see better. Sometimes, that means admitting that we don’t have all the answers and referring you elsewhere. No one physician knows it all, and my staff and I are fortunate to have strong relationships with various sub-specialists, including academicians at universities, should the need arise.

In the great city of Los Angeles, we are blessed to have many world-class ophthalmologists, and therefore, your eyes will more than likely be in the best of hands with the majority of eye-care providers. Ultimately, your decision as a patient on whom to choose will really rest on who you feel most comfortable with, and where you can achieve the kind of patient-doctor relationship you are looking for.

My educational background is attached for those of you who are interested. I wish you health and happiness.

Sincerely,

David Paikal, M.D.
Diplomate American Board of Ophthalmology
Assistant Clinical Professor, UCLA Stein Eye Institute
