Julie B. Pearlman, MD, is a highly experienced and skilled ophthalmologist at North Shore Glaucoma Center & Eye Physicians. She provides care at their Libertyville, Illinois, office. Dr. Brandon Chuang grew up in Irvine, CA before attending University of California San Diego. He graduated with a BS in Biology in 2013. He then earned his Doctorate of Optometry from New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA in 2018.

After graduation, he pursued a residency in ocular disease and primary care at the Veteran’s Affairs Hospital of Brockton, Massachusetts. At his residency, he worked closely with world renowned ophthalmologists, comanaging glaucoma, dry eye, uveitis, cataracts, and retinal diseases like macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. After finishing residency, Dr. Chuang returned to his alma mater as a professor, where he worked as faculty training future optometrists for 2 years before returning to Orange County.

Dr. Chuang has been described as a compassionate eyecare provider who is committed to high quality patient care. His specialty is glaucoma, but he considers himself a jack of all trades given his various clinical experiences. He also enjoys treating dry eye, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and fitting contact lenses. "It's important for me to be able to give the best level of care to all of my patients, so I stay up to date on all aspects of my clinical care and new technologies."

Outside of clinic, Dr. Chuang enjoys playing tennis, watching NBA basketball, hiking, and spending time with his wife, daughter, and dog.

Dr. Bahorski completed her Bachelor of Science Degree at Michigan State University (where she was a member of the pre-optometry club) and received her doctorate from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago in 2000. Her extensive internships at the Detroit VA, Portsmouth Naval Base in New Hampshire, and Mid-Florida Eye Center provided her with advanced experience in managing ocular disease, contact lens fittings, and surgical co-management, working closely with both optometrists and ophthalmologists.

Dr. Bahorski is an expert in complex contact lens fittings, including multi-focal torics and myopia control soft lenses. She provides comprehensive treatment and management of ocular diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, dry eyes, and allergies.

Committed to providing the highest quality care, Dr. Bahorski continually updates her skills and remains certified in the latest advancements and technology. Her goal is simple: to provide personalized, individual care that consistently exceeds patient expectations.

In her free time, Dr. Bahorski enjoys gardening, sailing, traveling, MSU football, and Detroit sports. She loves spending time with family, friends, and her dog, Snoop.

Vanessa Mostofsky, OD values the opportunity to provide quality eye care to all her patients. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from SUNY College of Optometry. She completed her residency in Ocular Disease at SUNY with a focus on glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration. She is also experienced in pediatric eye examinations.

Rachel Ellyn, MD, is a board-certified comprehensive opthalmologist with advanced fellowship training in surgical glaucoma and cataracts at Lowcountry Eye Specialists, located in Ladson, South Carolina. She joined the Lowcountry Eye Specialists team in August of 2023. 

Dr. Ellyn is skilled in the latest microinvasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS), traditional glaucoma surgery, and astigmatism-correcting and advanced technology intraocular lens implants. She also treats patients for conditions including, but not limited to, diabetic eye disease, dry eye, macular degeneration, infections, and eye trauma.

Born and raised on James Island, Dr. Ellyn graduated from Clemson University prior to attending The Medical University of South Carolina for her medical degree. She completed her internship and residency at The University of South Carolina, where she was selected as chief resident in her final year. Dr. Ellyn then went on to complete a surgical glaucoma fellowship at Callahan Eye Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Glaucoma Society.

Dr. Ellyn’s love for ophthalmology was passed down from her father, Dr. John Ellyn, who has been a practicing ophthalmologist in the Charleston area for over 30 years.

Dr. Ellyn and her husband, Matt, are delighted to be back home. They enjoy spending time with family and friends, as well as their two goldendoodles, Maddux and Smoltz.

Jay Thompson, MD, also known as John E. Thompson III, is a board-certified ophthalmologist at Lowcountry Eye Specialists who specializes in cataract surgery, glaucoma, and diabetic eye disease. He also treats adult patients in Ladson, South Carolina, for conditions including, but not limited to, macular degeneration, infections, eye trauma, dry eye, pterygium, and eyelid disorders.

Originally from Portland, Oregon, Dr. Thompson graduated with high honors from Middlebury College in Vermont with a degree in biochemistry. He was lured to Charleston to attend the Medical University of South Carolina on the prestigious E. Conyers O’Bryan Scholarship, a full merit-based scholarship awarded for academic achievement. His residency in ophthalmology at Eastern Virginia Medical School concluded with him serving as chief resident during his final year.

Dr. Thompson received the Frey Award for excellence in research from the Virginia Society of Ophthalmology. This award recognizes only one resident in the state every year. He has done extensive research in ophthalmology, has published papers in leading ophthalmology journals, and continues to be involved in clinical studies. 

Dr. Thompson and his wife, Heather, currently reside on James Island with their two beautiful daughters.
