About James Barnes, MD
James W. Barnes, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and fellowship-trained sports medicine specialist who treats conditions of the shoulder, hip, and knee. His practice focuses on restoring active lifestyles through both nonoperative treatments and advanced surgical care.
Dr. Barnes provides arthroscopy, PRP orthobiologic therapies, ultrasound-guided injections, and robotic-assisted hip and knee replacement using the Mako robotic system.
He completed orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Missouri–Kansas City and a sports medicine fellowship at UCLA, where he treated athletes and served as a team orthopedic surgeon for the Los Angeles Lakers. He has also served as a physician for Team USA at the Pan American Games in Chile and the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.
A Major in the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Barnes served as Director of Surgical Services at Luke Air Force Base and deployed to Afghanistan with a forward surgical team supporting Special Operations Forces.
