Dr. Esses also is active in the academic field of orthopedic surgery. He sits on the associate editorial boards of Spine, The Spine Journal, and Advances in Orthopedics. Dr. Kyle F. Dickson is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with Southwest Orthopedic Group, LLP, practicing in the Houston, Sugar Land, and Pearland, Texas, offices. He specializes in orthopedic trauma and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Dickson graduated from the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic residency at the University of California, San Francisco. His fellowship training at the University of Southern California focused on trauma, pelvic, and acetabular surgery. Dr. Dickson furthered his expertise by completing an additional fellowship in Ilizarov limb lengthening and deformities and an AOTrauma fellowship in trauma centers in Germany and Switzerland.
Dr. Dickson is a calm, collected physician with years of experience in treating patients with orthopedic trauma. For over 15 years, he has restored thousands of patients back to health and function. Dr. Dickson’s areas of specialty care include complex orthopedic trauma, disorders of the hip, acetabular fractures, and pelvic injuries, as well as post-traumatic malunions, nonunions, and infections.

He values teaching and mentoring the next generation of physicians, and was formerly a professor and chairman of orthopedic surgery at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, as well as a tenured professor of orthopedics at Tulane University in New Orleans.

Dr. Omer A. Ilahi, a founding partner of Southwest Orthopedic Group, LLP, currently practices in the Houston, Baytown, and Pearland, Texas, offices. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in orthopedic surgery and orthopedic sports medicine.
Dr. Ilahi graduated summa cum laude from Rice University, then earned his medical degree with high honors from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he also completed his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery. He fine-tuned his ability to treat athletes with a fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery at the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Ilahi began practicing in the Houston area in 1995.
Dr. Ilahi specializes in treating shoulder and knee problems, especially those related to sports injuries. He has honed his sports medicine knowledge by serving as the team physician for several Houston area high schools. He also was an assistant team physician at the University of Wisconsin during his fellowship there. In 2001, Dr. Ilahi founded the Texas Arthroscopy & Sports Medicine Institute, a group that promotes research, education, and patient care in the fields of sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery.
